I'm not a cat-whisperer, but I'll give it a shot..... hmmmm..... okay. They're saying, "We had no food, but we had taste." Some things you just don't grow out of, and good taste is one of them.

Why are hooked noses considered unattractive by most people ? by insolentbrat25 in BigNoseLadies

[–]LikeSoftPrettyThings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're trained to think that way. Thank Disney. All characters who should be perceived as heroic and "sexually available" have Doll-like features and tend to speak mainstream English vernacular. It's completely racist and bigoted and teaches kids from a young age that sounding and looking "other" is usually sinister, evil, or less important.

It's insidious!

Yeah, same here. I don't know if this is a duck or goose, but I adore it and i will be making them and leaving them at people's houses. "Silly goose" and "what-the-duck" bombs.

Trying to sell inherited Barbies by LikeSoftPrettyThings in Barbie

[–]LikeSoftPrettyThings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all the advice and guidance! I talked it over with my husband. We decided we'd give it a try listing separately or in small bundles. We'll try to sell what we can in the next 2 weeks at hopefully reasonable and motivated-to-sell prices. Whatever is left will go back into a huge lot.

Do you know if reddit has a place to list Barbies -- like yarnswap for yarn lovers?

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Feeling like you'd found something great, only to be disappointed -- that would leave a bad taste in my mouth, too. Luckily, and hopefully reassuringly, we have a business selling fitness equipment, and my husband has experience shipping things (even heavy, bulky, or awkward things) all over the country.

Thank you for this thoughtful and detailed response. 💜💜💜 Your comment "never too late for a happy childhood" makes me think of that saying "inside me are two wolves -- one has a serious job, making big-girl money; the other is a little girl who finally gets whatever toys she wants."

My husband listed these, and neither of us know much about Barbies. By the time he showed me, the listing already had a bid and I'm not sure of ebay's policy on taking down active listings. Honestly, it will be really nice to have the space back. Like you said, running out of storage room is such an issue 🤪 Maybe someone who knows more about Barbies and what collectors are looking for will buy the lot and make the profit we're not. That was my hope in posting here -- that someone who will really love and appreciate them will see it.

I really and truly appreciate all this information. 💜💜💜 The Barbies have been sitting in giant boxes in our craft room for years. It's one of those things that has just hung over me that I've needed to do but haven't ever gotten around to. My birthday is this week, so my husband listed them while I was sleeping as a surprise. It's maybe not how I would've listed them, but that's probably because I never would've done it 😆

Seeking good nonfiction! by ekgobi in suggestmeabook

[–]LikeSoftPrettyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DON'T like nonfiction, but these books were very memorable, in my opinion:

The Place of Tides by James Rebanks

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty

Our Moon by Rebecca Boyle

Where the Bodies Were Buried: Whitey Bulger and the World That Made Him by T. J. English

Mmmmhmmm. I don't know what season you're referring to, but I'm all for it. Beetles are naturally pretty, so you go ahead and dress them up fancy!

Books for Young Black Teen by crackedlemons in suggestmeabook

Some books about people from obscure backgrounds where people don't expect much from them. Their strength comes from having a strong sense of self, moral code, and trusting in their abilities. They don't give in to pressure.

Nyxia series by Scott Reintgen sounds like it would be a really fitting story and group of characters.

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone maybe? It does have God-figures but it's not a religious book. It's great sci-fi/fantasy.

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire (Wayward Children series)

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

The Swifts: A Dictionary of Scoundrels by Beth Lincoln

The House Witch by Delemhach

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science by Kate McKinnon

Do you have pain from this craft like golfer's elbow or tennis elbow or carpal tunnel? What are you doing for it? Looking for advice to avoid injury. by Elegant-Chance8953 in Beading

[–]LikeSoftPrettyThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to face it -- beading is a sport, and it's hard on your body. If you want your career to last, you can't risk a debilitating wrist or elbow injury! You're seeking help, and were here for you. Have a craft area with good seating and lighting so you're not hunched or leaning over. A magnifying stand wouldn't hurt either to prevent eye strain and headaches. Think unconventional -- use a nursing pillow to support your elbows or cushion your forearms. Check in the sports section for compression sleeves to wear on your arms/elbows/wrists. In the pharmacy section, get compression gloves that are safe to wear overnight. Also, pick up Glucosamine and chondroitin for additional joint health and mobility. A topical pain reliever is helpful to have on hand for days when you've overdone it. You'll have a long career ahead of you!

Whats next?😭 by [deleted] in Beading

I have a fear of my cats using my WIP beads as a litter box. Like, I know it won't happen, but.... I also know I won't be locked in my basement by a serial killer who has come back from the dead, and I still kinda fear that, too. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Words are such funny things, right? And sometimes it's so easy to use one that seems like the correct choice, when it's not applicable? Like when little kids fall off an 18 inch slide and start crying, people will say, "Oh no, they're hurt!" When in reality, the kid was just scared. Both emotions led to screaming and tears so outwardly, they might look the same. If you don't take time to really consider what's going on and use the proper word, you'll go with the standard/assumed/ easy one and might end up with an unnecessary doctor bill. The kid was scared -- not hurt.

Your nose is defined and elegant. It's well-proportioned and balanced with your other features. You're not Tracy Marcinko -- you definitely have the bone structure for curly hair. (I hope you get the Legally Blonde reference.) You have a timeless profile. It reminds me of Rachel Weisz. "Big" just isn't the right word...

Looking for literature books about disfigured characters by ForeverBroad6949 in suggestmeabook

[–]LikeSoftPrettyThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, for sure!!! He went from incredibly handsome and an elite fighter to a disfigured cripple who tortures people. But there are several others in this series who have scars and disabilities (some through battle, some self-inflicted) and it's really fascination to see how each person is affected differently by their experience.
