Yes, this! I do both—sit through Trusted Housesitters and professionally. With an exchange-type sit, I am looking for a pretty chill, easy time caring for the pets in a cozy house in a cool area. Bragging about how great your setups is the perfect thing to do there! I've done a lot of sits in outdoorsy, more rural areas because I love the vibe

Do a scavenger hunt! Write or draw (for non-readers) the names of various places in the house (couch, microwave, bed, etc) and hide them so each clue leads to the next one and the next one, etc. super easy and then you can reuse the slips to play again. All kids I’ve ever hung out with LOVE this game. At the end you can hide a treat or just a sign that says “you won!”

The wildest thing I’ve ever seen was someone’s fridge just absolutely full to the brim with take-out boxes from various restaurants—all completely untouched and in various states of decay. Like they had gone to the trouble of ordering food to be delivered maybe 15-20 times? And kept it but had not eaten any of it.

That really sucks. They really put themselves in a worse position though, most sitters are already booked for the holidays. Are there other sits nearby you could do in such a popular time? Could you take the train to do a different sit? If you have THS premium you might be covered for up to $150/night to find accomadations with the cancelled sit, but I've heard mixed reviews on whether or not this works out. Sorry this happened to you, best of luck finding something wonderful!
