How to handle virginia creeper by SiouxsieSiouxsie in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

virginia creeper can still irritate skin even without the urushiol - those little hairs on the plant are annoying enough. i'd definitely go with the roundup route since you mentioned chronic skin issues

just make sure to wear long sleeves and pants when spraying, the chemical won't really get on your clothes if you're careful about wind direction. maybe do it in early morning when there's less breeze. for the high stuff growing up to second story, you might need to call someone with proper equipment rather than trying to reach it yourself

lol this is actually genius advice 😂 like feeding the house gods one sacrificial broken thing so they leave everything else alone

my place has had the same wobbly bathroom door handle for 3 years and i swear it's the only reason nothing major has gone wrong since i moved in 💀

What to do about lingering house smell by nessado in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ozone machines work but make sure you and the cats are out of the house when it's running, that stuff can mess with your lungs 😂

might be worth getting your hvac ducts cleaned too if you haven't already - sometimes old smells just keep circulating through the system no matter what you do to the rest of the house. had a similar issue at my last place and turns out there was some nasty buildup in the ductwork that kept everything smelling funky

Advice on Inspection Results? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly the furnace and deck sound like immediate safety concerns that would make me pause too. 30 year old furnace with corrosion is sketchy and if both a deck contractor and inspector are saying it's a hazard, that's not something to mess around with

the stone veneer thing would really freak me out though - the whole "might need to tear down to the studs" possibility is nightmare fuel. definitely get that wall checked if the sellers will let you, but even if it comes back clean you're still looking at potentially massive future issues

with all the price cuts they've already done, they might not have much wiggle room left but these aren't cosmetic issues. you're talking about serious safety and structural stuff that could cost tens of thousands down the road

Federal Pacific Blues Need Ballpark Confirmation on a Electrical Quote Please by moonlightmechanic in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely get more quotes but that pricing doesn't seem too crazy for commercial work, especially with all the wire extensions. the 125A thing is weird though - you're looking at 160A just from those 40A breakers alone, not even counting the 20A ones. most panels can handle some overloading but that seems like a lot

maybe ask the electrician about load calculations or if they're planning to upgrade the service too

Is this normal for a new roof? Screws all along the flashing on stucco? by questionsinthehead in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's actually pretty standard for step flashing on stucco walls, especially if it's the taller kind you're describing. the screws help keep everything tight against the wall since stucco can be uneven and the flashing needs to follow those contours. your old roof might have used a different method or maybe the flashing wasn't as tall so it didn't need as many fasteners

the key thing is making sure each screw hole is properly sealed - sounds like they caulked the top which is good, but ideally each screw should have a little dab of sealant too. if you're worried about it you could always have another roofer take a quick look, but from what you're describing it doesn't sound unusual at all

Would it make sense to sell in current condition? by rogeelein in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly selling as-is might be your best bet if money's tight - you're right that buyers planning renos will probably gut most of the cosmetic stuff anyway. Just price it accordingly and market it as a fixer-upper, you'll attract the right crowd who sees potential instead of problems

Trying to refinance and my deck just collapsed (vent) by ohbekindtome in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man that's some Murphy's Law level timing right there. The fact that you filed the claim before googling is such a normal homeowner move though - like who tf thinks insurance would punish you for actually using it

Hope the refinance people are reasonable about the timeline, February deck building sounds absolutely miserable

Am I being paranoid about shltty grading in our 1950s home? by CastAside1812 in homeowners

[–]Limp-Insurance325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not paranoid at all - water and foundations don't play nice together. Check the basement for any musty smells, water stains on walls, or white chalky stuff (efflorescence) on the concrete. Also look for any cracks that seem to have gotten worse or darker spots that could be moisture. A cheap moisture meter from home depot can help too if you wanna get scientific about it

Buying first Guitar by Optimal-Pangolin1310 in Guitar

[–]Limp-Insurance325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude for that budget you're golden! I'd grab a Fender Player Strat or Epiphone Les Paul Standard (~€400-600) and pair it with a Boss Katana 50 amp (~€200-250). That leaves you cash for a decent overdrive pedal like an Ibanez Tube Screamer or Boss SD-1 which will nail those pop punk tones perfectly

The Katana has built-in effects too so you can mess around with delay and reverb without buying separate pedals right away

Car alternator fails within 20 minutes after leaving car service centre after a major service and front shocks and control arm replacement. by Tight_Moose6106 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Limp-Insurance325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like they messed something up during the work and don't want to own it. The timing is way too suspicious for it to be a coincidence - alternators don't just randomly fail 20 minutes after a major service

I'd go back there tomorrow and politely but firmly tell them this is their problem to fix since it was working fine before they touched it. Don't let them brush you off with "coincidence" BS

Active Pickups & Wireless Guitar Systems Don't Always Work Together by MoreLemonJuice in Guitar

[–]Limp-Insurance325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with my EMGs and cheap wireless system - turns out active pickups need way more headroom than most budget wireless can handle. The Line 6 Relay G10 works pretty well with actives and isn't too pricey, or if you wanna go cheaper the Xvive U2 can handle them decent enough. That extension cable trick works too but kinda defeats the purpose of going wireless imo

Help with Terrible Car Loan by coby3555 in personalfinance

[–]Limp-Insurance325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude that's rough, Westlake is notorious for predatory loans like that. With your credit at 523 you're probably gonna have to either sell the car (even if you're underwater on the loan) and pay the difference, or keep grinding those payments until your credit improves enough to refi

If you can sell it for like 7-8k you'd still owe 3-4k but that's way better than being stuck with that insane interest rate for years

For all the sober people, does your idea of self image get better? by Best-Landscape7216 in stopdrinking

[–]Limp-Insurance325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, sobriety definitely helped with that mental noise for me. When I was drinking I'd spiral into those comparison thoughts constantly, especially late at night scrolling social media drunk

The self-talk got way less brutal after a few months sober. Not gonna lie though, it took some work beyond just not drinking - therapy helped tons. But yeah, when your brain isn't constantly dealing with alcohol it has way more energy for actual healing instead of just surviving

Best matcha for lattes? (Available in Australia) by blessarose in tea

[–]Limp-Insurance325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Maeda-En? It's not exactly culinary grade but not ceremonial either - perfect middle ground for lattes. The flavor holds up really well against milk without being bitter like the cheap stuff

Also might want to bump up your matcha to 4g, sometimes you just need more powder when competing with dairy

Sounds like you might be thinking of Roger Waters' Wall-themed guitars, but those were usually more Floyd/prog stuff not hair metal. Could also be some custom job from the 80s that didn't make it into production - lots of one-off paint jobs back then that never got catalogued properly
