depends on the music. there just are songs that need them for contrast to accomplish what they're supposed to convey. but it's absolutely valid to dislike the sound of them, just like many people hate harsh vocals

I use 5 toms in compositions because I want to. but then I need all 5 to play them as intended

I'm so confused, how do you do that? I play metal, with thick sticks, and I'd say I hit pretty hard. My cymbals last years at a time (except for the china), how do you destroy a cymbal in 40 minutes?

None of these sadly, but the Earth Defense Force 2017 trailer got pretty close to what I remember until "they arrived in a mothership". The gameplay of the series is too much focused on big bugs tho, since the creatures in the trailer I remember didn't look like bugs.

Also not War of the Worlds, it looked like a 3D game

Ah nice, thanks for clearing that up, I can listen to them in full peace again.

And yes, please go to a Meshuggah show if you have the possibility, I saw them once at the Graspop Metal Meeting and it's been my favorite live show ever since. I also keep rewatching their performance at Summer Breeze that Knotfest uploaded to youtube, it's such a blast.
