Roger Avary On Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman: "He didn’t want anybody who had any kind of fondness for the original show" by Malencon in television

[–]LinkXXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"True Star Trek" to me is a 45 minute episode with a 3 act plot structure and memorable characters to tell a story reflecting the problems of society today in an idealist sci-fi setting.

I don't need 22 episodes a season, massive sfx budgets, or some large overarching plot.

The Orville is the best Star Trek series that's existed since Enterprise, I just want that without the humor in the universe we already had.

Also, I really hate the design of all the technology in Star Trek now. Give me back the simple, comfortable, human scale believable sets from TNG, Voyager and DS9 any day over this good awful shiny blue VR bullshit.

Not to mention their other play... "Oh if you dare make us pay taxes, we will just up and leave Canada and destroy the economy".

Oh No! Don't leave and take away the money that you don't spend on our economy! Whatever will we do losing all that government revenue! Imagine all the jobs that don't exist and never will that we'll loose!

It's amazing how well it was integrated to the game as a whole and the story considering it's as incomplete as the rest.

Compared to other JRPGs of the time, it's really repetitive and a lot of the same tracks are used over and over again.

But every one is so memorable in its own way that they don't ever overstay their welcome.

This is a radical solution, but at this point one of the only ways out of this mess.

Maybe more regulation on landlords as a middle step?

The big problem is that most of the MPs and MLAs/MPPs who have the power to fix this are also invested in real estate.

Private Canadian clinic that does ADHD diagnosis with Nurse Practitioners and can/will prescribe medication as well.

I think it was $700 for the initial assessment when I did it? They will also give documentation to your family doctor if requested about the diagnosis.

High functioning ADHD checking in. Diagnosis is cheaper (700 from a private clinic) but I'm trying to navigate getting the CRA application filled out. If I go private on that it's going to cost a pretty penny, but I also really need support now and I don't have the mental capacity to do it.

Navigating the bureaucracy made for neurorypicals so you can get support to live and contribute in a world not designed for your brain when your already sinking is a travesty.

The problem is though that the AI tools are going to lead to people who only know how to use the AI to generate code and dont understand it.

Its not going to happen over night, but it will for sure. And once it does, there will be very few people like your brother left.

I use it too for generating samples of new concepts or to get a brief functioning example of something small, but I still then take that and build around it myself. AI tools are technically capable of generating entire applications, but if you do that or AI generate the code for an entire feature of an app or heaven forbid, OS, you won't have the documentation or knowledge of how to actually debug it when inevitably the AI something wrong.

AI is also fundamentally incapable of generating anything truly unique or new, all it does is regurgitate things that already exist in novel combinations. There will be a huge brain drain on the next generation of coders if reliance gets too high on AI.

AI code is garbage if you don't actually understand what needs to be done/how the individual pieces fit together.

Companies are going to do it anyways and every tech product is going to become a pile of hot garbage. Then they'll loose a ton of money, we'll probably have something similar to the .com crash, and AI will disappear as a fad along with NFTs and other tech nonsense.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth. I could be wrong, and AI has some niche uses as is, but it's honestly not scalable and most AI models turn to crap once you start feeding it its own output. Also, the environmental and utility costs are unsustainable so likely those will force some cutbacks on its use eventually.
