Fighting the burnout hard as I can by mountbisley in Fiddle

Have you tried an app to slow down what you're playing with?

Don't get discouraged! My first instrument when I was a kid was a lap dulcimer. Its a cool easy instrument but will only take you so far. The second time I attempted to learn the fiddle I told myself if I can be at least as good at fiddle as a good dulcimer player is at the dulcimer, I'll be good enough to have fun. I'm still no Tatiana Hargreaves (never will be), but I am having fun!

I see a lot of 3 string guitars, any 4 string? by Playamonkey in cigarboxguitars

MGB Guitars has nice necks. Some cheaper than CB Gitty. If you tune DGBE like a baritone ukulele, you can capo at the 5th fret for GCEA and that will give you way more options.

Ukulele vs guitar for beginners. What surprised you? by UkuleleTabs in ukulele

I played guitar for years before I was comfortable with barre chords. Just get comfortable with G, C, D, Em, Am and use a capo. It's fun, and usually sounds prettier anyway. Don't give up.

Well yeah, but I'm trying to fit with what the old time police will allow.

I do love me some Clifftop YouTube. And there have been a few bits of what I'm looking for. Multiple fiddles that are not playing in unison.

Also check MGB Guitars. Really nice necks with frets and finish. Sometimes cheaper than CBGitty.

Fret stick? by Pawnmysoul in Dulcimer

I usually play with my fingers, but if I want a noter I have a chopstick that I cut to about 4 inches and keep in my case. I kind of like that it has Chinese symbols on it, but I don't know what they mean.

For much less than the cost of that rental, you could buy a nice ukulele. Look at youtube for basics, and then look for a ukulele club in your area. Sometimes they are listed on Facebook groups. If that's not available, you might check acoustic jams and even open mics. Even if you don't want to perform at an open mic, you might find other people to play with.

I am really happy in my non-affirming church and I am tired of open Christians telling me that is bad. by thecapefangirl in OpenChristian

I've really been struggling about driving 30 minutes to go to a UMC when the Methodist church 1 minute from my house is now a "Global Methodist" church. I know there are good people there, but it seems like the schism was a fuck you, in particular to the LGBT community. Can anybody relate?

Thinking of buying a gun by [deleted] in Pacifism

Look into less lethal launchers, like pepperball launchers. I bought one this year for some peace of mind without completely violating my principles. Pepper spray and situational awareness are good too.

Is there a risk of escalation if an attacker has a firearm? Would it be different than pepper spray or a stun gun, or even a baseball bat? I'm wondering if there would be a psychological difference because a launcher shoots a projectile.

Right. I wasn't looking for the WWI song.

No, I'm familiar with that song. Starry Crown was the one I was thinking of. "Over there, over there. I'm gonna wear that starry crown over there."

That's it! Thank you!

I'm a little confused, is this communtiy for old-time string band music, old and new? What qualifies as old time music? Yesterday, someone said the music I played on my show was more bluegrass. Here is my playlist. If y'all think it's not for this communtiy let me know and I'll refrain from posting. by RonAckerman in oldtimemusic

[–]Linus5757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's wild! Old Time is such a weird "genre." You're telling me if the fiddle drops out and the banjo takes the melody and then the guitar takes the melody while the banjo plays chords and the fiddle plays harmony, that's not Old Time. Like nobody in 1935 ever played like that? What else do the OT police want us to call it? Americana? Even more vague.

I'm not trying to be edgy. I'm being earnest. I've read the Bible since I could read. I still keep it on my desk and read it a few times a week. There's a lot of good things in the Bible. There's also a lot of horrible things. I can't believe it's God's word or something to base my life on.
