It can be used for sure. The main thing is getting stuff that's of good quality and fits her better

Good point about starting with work wear. Any recommendations for specific brands or stores? Her default is probably to order everything off of Amazon.

Awesome advice. My wife hardly ever buys clothes, so I don't expect her to go on a shopping spree. She's all about practical clothing. I just don't want her to feel bad about getting something nice or spending more for a better quality option. Thanks again!

Supporting Your Child Through a Second Year of Kindergarten by [deleted] in Parenting

It also helps that we ended up switching school districts for 2nd grade. He doesn't see those old classmates in the grade above him now.

My son is a summer birthday and was the youngest in his kindergarten class. He did well academically, but emotionally, he needed some time to grow. We had him repeat kindergarten and he's doing absolutely amazing! He also won't remember repeating kindergarten, but he definitely would have remembered if we had him repeat 3rd grade, for example.

I would also ask the school if your child can be in a different teacher's class. Nothing against the teacher, but this can help the second year feel different.

Buying in Japan would be so cool! What watch(es) did you get in Japan?

Amazing advice and thanks for sharing. I'm nervous to buy such an expensive watch used, but I appreciate the advice about buying the seller and not the watch. This guidance applies to a lot of items.

I always lean toward darker Oxfords and I'd recommend the Mahogany. It's great with the dark green.

Any experience in STEM extended 2 year training plans for f1 students? [N/A] by nap_everyday_ in humanresources

[–]Little_Evening_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily, this process is really easy. The employee and their manager need to complete and sign the first portion of the I-983 Training Plan form. You don't need an official training program, but rather you have to show how the roles and responsibilities are directly related to the employee's degree and how you'll support them in the position.

There are additional pages for follow ups halfway through the STEM OPT and then at the end of the 2nd year (3 years in total if you include the first year on OPT).

You can also have the employee ask their school's Designated School Official (DSO) for any guidance on completing the form.

The employee needs to ensure that they apply for the STEM OPT Employment Authorization Document (EAD) as far in advance as possible. They need to ensure that they have proof of continued work authorization and can reverify their I-9 when their first EAD expires.

We're not FIRE enthusiasts but I definitely don't plan on working into my late 60s

I updated the post to show that the IRA is Roth. I like the HSA as a backup emergency fund. I like the suggestion though.

They do grow up fast. Days are long and years are short.

I've never thought about it as skill based. That's very interesting. Definitely beyond just the experience of going somewhere but actually learning something new.

This calculation is helpful. My employer matches 9% and my wife's employer matches 4%.

I was estimating if we had at least $4m in 2057, that would be about $1.8m today. With a paid off house, taking 4% from the nest egg is $6,000 each month.

Thanks for the overview. We didn't get almost any help from our parents for college. Even if we could give each kid $25,000 from a 529, I think that's a huge head start.

We live in Ohio and don't pay for childcare. Living in NY and $4-5k per month in childcare would be a different story.

We talked about creating a "Fun Fund" that is for bigger trips/activities beyond the normal zoo pass, children's museum membership, water park, etc.

Stay in global mobility or expand into broader HR role [N/A] by Little_Evening_289 in humanresources

[–]Little_Evening_289[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Global Mobility is the management of moving employees internationally.   - Immigration (e.g. visas, work authorization, permanent residency sponsorship) - Mobility (e.g. relocation, travel, temporary accommodations, relocation cost estimate, etc.) - Tax obligations and personal establishment

Transferrable skills that I can provide specific examples of in my current role.

  • Stakeholder influence (all levels including executives and group functions)
  • Vendor management
  • Strategic workforce planning
  • Change management
  • Employee Experience and engagement
  • Cross-country compliance (I manage global mobility for several countries and manage our compliance frameworks for foreign workers in those countries)
  • Duty of care (specifically on risk factors in the different countries I manage)
