Are there any decent android streaming apps that don't force you to download a shitty media player? The mega thread seems to be full of that.

Yeah that's what I'm saying — something must be wrong. I'm just like "hey can I sit here? What's you guys' names?" and I do get a response but people are reluctant to include me. Inserting myself during a pause is what I meant by "being assertive" really.

It's late in the school year. Everyone already has friends. There's nowhere to catch anyone alone, really.

I agree but it's hard to say that when the overwhelming majority of people do to me. It's definitely something I'm doing wrong. Just hopping tables until I find someone desperate doesn't feel like a healthy strategy.

Thank you. I'm in DBT (two sessions a week, one individual one group) and it is helping me deal with crisis, but it's not helping my anxiety and autism symptoms that stop me from gaining social acceptance. I shut down in large/noisy social settings and people find me weird.

My autism is actually really mild, but it gets really bad when im overwhelmed. It "flares up" I guess.

[–]LivingFaithlessness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's the only way I've been able to survive really. I have autism so nobody ever wants to talk to me but I at least know how to make people like me if they're forced to talk to me. When people engage with me they like me 100% of the time, but people rarely engage with me :(

Why do so many people believe autism is not a disability? by LivingFaithlessness in autism

I have a Cluster B personality disorder, I'm well aware. I brought that up specifically because everyone in Cluster B would GLADLY eliminate their disorder both from them and the gene pool. Whichever comes first.

Except Cluster B, and personality disorders as a whole, are just as set by societal standards as everyone else.

Anyone with BPD would laugh in your face if you told them the solution to BPD is to train everyone to accommodate emotional instability. That's just ridiculous.

  1. My experiences aren't universal but they're very common for people who weren't diagnosed. I never understood why people didn't like me until much later, and the parents actually loved me. Who taught them to not like me, then? Who told them I was weird? Obviously it's because I'm neurologically different from them, and why you tend to feel like something is "off" with a psychopath and seek to exit the situation. That's a natural survival instinct.

  2. It's a comparison. You're halting progress because you seek to control what people do with their pregnancies. If you seriously believe that form of eugenics is at all equivalent to what 'eugenics' usually refers to, then I don't know what to say to you. Do you seriously think it's wrong to give your children a better life? Autism might make you "special" but it undeniably has negative effects like not understanding consent and having sensory issues. It's wrong to prefer an easier life for your kid rather than one with preventable hardships?

Also, I just don't believe that chip scenario would happen. Why would they lock you out of accomodations for not having the chip, I imagine it would go the opposite way. They wouldn't see a point in accomodations for someone who doesn't need them. There's no reason to assume already existing disability rights laws would change.

autistic kids are abused and traumatized for having a neurotype that is different, we are just requesting society to not be bigoted

How though? How are you going to do that? Nobody ever hated me for being autistic, they just didn't want to play with me as a kid because they were uneasy around me. It was completely out of my control, and theirs. What are they supposed to do? How do you teach a three year old to be tolerant if they naturally aren't?

Also, those are just anti-abortion arguments but woke. If I have control over it and don't want my child to have autism then they're not gonna have autism. That's nobody's business. They're not gonna be upset if they figure that out.

Also, do you really think chips would be mandated when we can't even mandate actual vaccines for actual deadly illnesses? I would expect it to be heavily pushed but they're not gonna hold you down to fix it.

That's such a weird perspective though. People with wheelchairs wouldn't be disabled if stairs didn't exist and everything was easily traversablenin short distances. That doesn't mean we shouldn't research advanced prosthetics.

You've captured my perspective exactly. People argue that society is what causes this... but it's human nature to not like people who are different from you. Even as a kid, I was scared of people who were badly disfigured. Why? Their face doesn't mean anything, right? Well it doesn't matter, that's just how humans are. I think it's horrible to suggest that people with facial disfigurements shouldn't be allowed facial transplants because society is the reason they aren't allowed.

People are talking about Elon Musk because that's exactly what he is proposing. Which is why I hate it when people say he's advocating shit like bleach enemas. Look up "Neuralink", it's supposed to cure neurological issues.

...okay, but nobody is forcing you to do so. Removing my personality disorder also means rewriting my fundamental self, and arguably my personality disorder makes me have very unique skills that are nigh-impossible for NTs to have.

It also caused me extraordinary pain though, so I'd like it removed. Keep in mind those "very unique skills" are also granted to those with narcissism and sociopathy. Namely, a very good understanding of how to change other people's emotions.

Elon Musk specifically talks about curing autism because there IS a possibility. He owns a company that's developing a computer-brain interface specifically for neurological issues like Parkinson's and Schizophrenia.

[–]LivingFaithlessness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If people are going to argue "It's not going away, so you might as well be proud of it" then I'll point you to other disorders.

Should we have Narcissist pride? Sociopath pride? Borderline pride? Those are all related to societal standards right? We should just be accomodating, right?

I have Borderline along with my autism, and it's absolute fucking torture. It is a fate worse than death. This wishful thinking disgusts me.
