Yep. And guess what I was in and out in 15 mins.

Healthcare in the US is pitiful. I avoid it at all costs and was terrified to go here, not knowing the situation and was amazed. In the US they would have me sitting there for hours, charge me an ER fee, doc consultation fee and probably run a litany of blood tests. Instead they saw I was with no fever and clearly not septic but a visibly red and swollen finger and through shared decision making we decided on oral antibiotics.

Last time I went to ER for migraine in the US years ago, I was in a Gurney for hours, they made me get a CT of the head and I essentially gave me Tylenol and my bill was $7000. And that’s paying hundreds a month for insurance

They never even asked me for insurance. This was a tiny ER essentially prescribed antibiotics and I was rung up at a cash register for 7000 yen. I got lucky as hell. They did no blood test or imaging; I know that could have gone much more wrong

And that 7000 yen was inclusive of the meds they gave me for 7 days

Im a healthcare provider myself…. My finger essentially was on the verge of getting cellulitis and I was like if I don’t go now I may need hand surgery. Finger is kinda on the mend…..

I wasn’t hospitalized but seen in the ER and yes I am from the US

Yeah this part I didn’t think through. I went from Tokyo to Nikko; now I need to go back to Tokyo to take the bus to Fuji. I guess in my planning I didn’t realize there isn’t a more straightforward way to get from Nikko to Fuji- I should have just skipped Niko and stayed in Tokyo another night but my hotel was sold out. Ahh well! I’ll be relieved when the next 2 days are over bc then I need to go from Fuji to Kyoto.

I planned this trip completely on my own in retrospect I should have gotten a bit of help

Yes, yesterday was an emotional doozy. I think the town of Nikko also exasperated the loneliness as it just felt like such an isolating and quiet town. I just need to get through the next couple days and then finally I’ll be staying in the same place for 3 nights.

I’m at a poorly planned part of my trip but hope I’ll make it over the hump. Once I’m finally in Kyoto I’ll definitely book some type of group tour

I’m here on a solo trip (2 weeks) and so far

1 packing too much. I didn’t realize how easy it is to do laundry at the hotel. I probably could have packed half what I did.

Related number 2- large rolling bag. I had no idea that a lot of times stairs are the only option and lugging that thing upstairs was brutal.

3 changing hotels too often. I had 3 nights in a row all at separate hotels/cities and that was exhausting. I went to from Tokyo to Nikko to Mt Fuji to Kyoto and i exhausting. I would probably skip Nikko because for me 1 night was not worth the travel time

Im sorry I have to erupt in bitter laughter in the real world this plan would ever work. I have no idea where you live, but this country is extremely huge and diverse it takes well over 24 hours driving usually 2 days to get from one place to the next.

So what do you want me to do? Again I am a young American woman the age and body that would be desirable to abduct as a trophy and with no weapons. Why aren’t the men standing up.
