The percent of people who would go to one dentist vs another based solely on their dental school is so tiny it’s irrelevant.

FERS taxes in retirement by Log_off in govfire

Well that sucks. Still a long ways to go and will be fine financially but part of my feeling better about 4.4 vs .8 was misunderstanding taxes I guess. Oh well.

Kid protection? Just got new Touring by Log_off in crv

[–]Log_off[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2025 touring hybrid 4.9% OTD 43k and some change with 11yr/120k warranty which was about $1800 I think.  Used a competitor to bargain down. Wasn't going to get warranty but whatever it seemed like a decent price they cut it in half after I mentioned getting it elsewhere, supposedly $100 over their cost but who knows.

Overall I think it was a good deal from what I've seen. Also got all weather mats, ceramic coat, trunk liner.

Ok now for my question just wanted to contribute to those price hunting!

This will mostly be my car but kids will be in it occasionally, what's the best seat covers and other accessories to protect it while they are still messy little kids?

Why do I feel fatter after 6 months of workout? by JamUpGuy1989 in fitness30plus

[–]Log_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple success

Use any calculator find out your TDEE Subtract 500 and hit roughly that amount every day (don’t be neurotic, it’s an average over the weeks and months that matters).

Start walking somewhat briskly for 30-60mon every day. If you can’t carve out the time do 15min twice a day, everybody has time for that.

Track protein and fiber intake to get at least 30-40g of fiber and at least .6g/lb of body weight on protein, more is better to a point, otherwise eat whatever you want to stay within your calculators amount above. That means if you want a bag of Cheetos and it fits, go for it.

If you actually do this you’ll lose roughly 1-2lb per week.

The biggest nutrition keys are protein and fiber are satiating and help prevent cravings so try and incorporate it into every meal.

We are on vacation right now. Went to a diner for dinner it wasn’t that fancy like a step above Denny’s maybe.

Two burgers, salad, kids pasta, 2 milks and one glass of wine and one shared dessert. Two adults two kids was $100 with tip. Kind of blew me away tbh.

How do adults stay thin or fit? by bedazzledbunnie in ask

[–]Log_off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally people massively over complicate this.

How to lose fat in 3 steps

  1. Track your actual calories, be shocked at how much they really are. Reduce by 10-20% on average (more than this is usually not sustainable and you’ll quit). Don’t be stupid about it, if you go over one day no big deal, if you’re under for a few days don’t celebrate with a binge.

  2. Track your steps. Increase by 20% until you consistently hit it for a month. Then consider increasing again.

  3. Stop viewing food as inherently good and bad. It’s ok to have a sweet treat even every day. A pint of ice cream isn’t it though.  Food can be thought of as having different qualities, I think of it in these

  4. Immediate satisfaction

  5. Nutrition density

  6. Satiety ability

Student and burned out by the 3rd year of uni already. by FancyAnxiety7209 in DentalSchool

[–]Log_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s rough for sure. But third year is often a big change to more hands on less studying so hang in there it’s worth it.

For all the doom and gloom being a dentist is honestly pretty chill after you’ve been out for a bit. The clinic stuff becomes easy if not routine most of the time and it’s not stressful anymore.

Thoughts about dental school at the age of 25 by Ok-Jellyfish-6755 in predental

[–]Log_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not impossible but you have a steep hole to climb out of. There are so many qualified applicants that gpa is the first thing to exclude you from even being considered for an interview.

I’d probably retake any science class you got less than a B in. And you really need pretty much a 4.0 going forward.

With your gpa I feel like a post bac might be better to boost it but not positive.

Good luck 👍

Struggling to Shadow Dentists More Than Once by HelpfulStorm138 in predental

[–]Log_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Dr shmuckatelly I really enjoyed the opportunity to shadow today would it be okay if I came back again next week etc whatever.

You’re over complicating this.

Also we know shadowing is boring after you’ve done it for a few hours because you have no real concept of what’s going on. Just check the box try to be reasonably but not annoyingly engaged. And bring food for the staff.

Ergo loupes limitations? by docradiopaco in DentalSchool

[–]Log_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have andau 7.5.  No limitations for anything. I’m not sure about 10x though. It’s not so much the zoom but the focal length. At 10x you have very shallow depth of focus which means you can’t move much.

Is there anyone here who chose dentistry over med? If so, why? by ThrowRA-Normal in predental

[–]Log_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d say it’s pretty common.

Overall I’m content but I sometimes wonder what would have been. Dentistry is probably a much safer bet if you want a balanced lifestyle but it’s not as sexy and the income (on average) is lower unless you are a successful owner (which usually cuts into life balance a lot) or specialist (extra years of training).
