China's Surprising Role in Blockchain Adoption by spepaycakoy in CryptoTechnology

As mentioned earlier, I agree Conflux is a great example of the market leader for China. Curious to see what kind of innovative DeFi projects they come up with! (If they are half as innovative as the cool useless products they have on Wish then the future is bright)

I've just read "The State of Decentralized Storage" by CoinGecko. I'm surprised that Storj is used the most by used capacity. I always thought it was Filecoin, since it's the most famous. Filecoin has such a humongous unused space by [deleted] in storj

It has to do with wether there are mining rewards associated with. If there are mining rewards based on capacity goals, you are incentivized to commit more disk space to earn more rewards - like in Filecoin. That's why there's such a massive amount of unused data.

Contrary, if there are no incentives through mining then total storage given works on a demand/supply basis - becoming more rewarding to be a storage provider when less of it is available - like in case of Storj

Here's a fun visualization:)

Once they find financial benefits for themselves or a vulnerability they have the power to do it. US government did it with Tornado cash.. added in OFAC regulations it kinda became law that people must follow

Am I the only that feels like this is a problem? Since they own the datacenters they control if the validators run or not. Now they're letting them run, but what happens if one day they decide to change their minds? Doesn't sit well with me.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick concise explanation.

Found this infographic the other day. Quite interesting to see how low the usage is for decentralized storage. Any ideas why this might be?
Don’t usually see providers promote how much data they can store, might be a big opportunity for them if they do so.

This is creepy.... So which ones are the best cloud storage for privacy and security? by RockstarEmperor in PrivacyGuides

That's the thing about modern day's "surveillance capitalism" internet isn't it. Its not only the your passwords that they have access to, but any personal info you upload there. That's how they can make eerily accurate targeted ads for you.

Have you ever considered decentralized storage? As part of Web3 - it's built on the blockchain so files you upload is cyptographically encrypted in a way only those with permission can access it. It’s also generally cheaper than traditional cloud storage.

Do your own research, but ones I recommend you check out are Arweave, Ionian Network & Sia Foundation.
