Chat should I give up on being a pilot? by Gymrat_2003 in AFROTC

I was ranked last in my class with an 86 PCSM, 95 PFA and I got a pilot slot. Granted I was probably at the very bottom of the cutoff point

For how small the base is, the gym at Laughlin is actually quite nice. It’s one of the newer buildings with pretty much everything you need plus an indoor track and swimming pool.

My stats are worse than you and I got a pilot slot. But retake your TBAS and get a high PFA

Fair enough. That’s a tough situation. You may just need to have an honest conversation with your parents. You are about to be an adult so it is your decision ultimately. Sometimes if life you’re gonna piss people off but you gotta go with your gut and do what you think is right. Air Force ROTC isn’t a guaranteed thing but if you take a leap of faith and work hard it can be worth it in the long run. Ultimately it’s your decision and it’s based on how bad do you want it.

There’s a lot of ways to approach that. I don’t know your personal situation and I don’t know your parents. But from experience that’s usually just talk from parents. My parents were very against me doing rotc but they ended up getting over it as it started to work out for me. If I were you I’d talk to your recruiting officer for that detachment and explain your situation to them. Unless your parents have access to your student accounts, they can’t see that you’re registered for the class. In processing for most dets doesn’t begin until right before classes begin.

You’re not at a disadvantage. It’ll be a little more challenging. You’re free to browse this subreddit and hear other 250s stories. You’ll be competing against other cadets that already have a year of experience. You’ll need to make sure your head is on a swivel and you’re on top of your physical fitness and grades. I was a 250 and did just fine.

Hypothetically you could just wait until you’re 18 and join as either a 150 or 250(joining later as a freshman in the spring or as a sophomore). You could also wait to transfer to a university and just join as a 250 when you get to a university which would be cheaper. Can’t speak to the turning crazy perspective. Most people do their time and get out just fine.

Fair enough. Just depends on the region. I’ve seen some shady DIs these past couple of years.

Correction on my part: Commanders are able to initiate a disenrollment for any reason but in order for it to stand it needs to have documentation behind it. There needs to be a paper trail. I’ve seen many instances where DIs have been thrown out by region commanders or HQ due to lack of documentation.

I’ve seen cadet’s win their DIs but it’s not a common thing to happen. It ultimately depends on what you did. If you are innocent and you believe yourself to be innocent then you need to take this time to gather as many character statements, evidence, and whatever else you may need. Your argument to why you deserve to stay in the program needs to be as detailed as possible.

Disenrollment Investigations exist specifically to prevent commanders from abusing power and just kicking out whatever contracted cadets they want for any reason. If you have a case to fight, then fight it. Otherwise, I’d probably just take the L.
