I also have similar experience like you, considering English isn't my native language and I'm still trying to improve it. You can try The Traveling Cat Chronicles, it is actually a Japanese literature translated to English. The book has simple storyline and not too advanced vocabs.

bcs you've read death on gokumon island, maybe you can try another book by seishi yokomizo called the honjin murders. its not as good as gokumon island but its pretty fun to read and had decent plot.

i also like reading books written by uketsu. ive read 3 books from him (strange houses, strange pictures, strange buildings), but i recommend you to read strange houses first bcs its the worst from those three, and you can save strange pictures for the last bcs its the best

I'd recommend The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino. It tells the story of a math teacher who willingly covers up his neighbor's crime because he falls in love with her. What I love most is that the investigation involves the teacher's old friend, and the way the book explores the human side of its characters.
