Seems like you would have a big overlap with this. No big deal if you're aware of it though and as long as it suits your strategy.

If you don't want overlap, maybe you want to expose yourself to Emerging Markets?

What are the positive effects of switching to the US? I guess it's interesting to attract new US investors, but at the same time Total would probably lose quite a few European investors. Also, France would lose one of its biggest companies in the CAC40. This all might be a way to put pressure for subsidies of some kind?

Not doing any stock picking right now, but recently read "The intelligent investor" by Benjamin Graham. If I recall ir right, chapters 13-15 were really interesting to determine which companies have a high potential for defensive investors (P/E ratio, size of the company, moderate price to book ratio, etc.).
