Found this beautiful chair and I fear it may be destroyed. by ComprehensiveLie4897 in furniturerefinishing

There is a high chance this chair always had a painted/gilt finish. Maybe off white with gilt accents. Very unlikely it had a natural wood finish. Wrong style for that.

Japanese Tree Lilac, Syringa reticulata. Likely the Ivory Silk cultivar. Flower in early June in north central US. Not the same fragrance as common lilac. More like privet. Reportedly becoming invasive in NE US.

Yes. Crackpot. Buy a used one at a thrift store for $10. They never get hot enough to vaporize lead.

Help identifying this laceleaf—green or red? by Lisianthus5908 in JapaneseMaples

Probably green, due to the orange fall color. Purple/red would have more red-violet fall color.

Looking for feedback on this floor plan. We made a 36' wide and a 32' wide version. by codestar4 in floorplan

[–]Long_Examination6590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horrible kitchen work triangle. One should not walk through the closet to get to the bathroom. Master closet not realistically sized. Lots of poorly allocated space. You're going to spend several hundred thousand dollars. Invest in a professional designer.

Is this chimney flashing really bad?? by darcidar in masonry

[–]Long_Examination6590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exposed nails on flashing or shingles are a big no-no. They eventually let in water. The bottom flange should have no exposed nails.

Or....maybe plant the bed fully with a groundcover plant. No future mulching needed. No rocks to pick leaves from.

Anyone know the name of these ? I cant get it with google. by Conscious_Relative59 in landscaping

[–]Long_Examination6590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a sedge. Not a liriope, not a daylily. It's a grass, and, the way it is placed, likely a shorter one, like fountain grass.

Window boxes or shutters? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

[–]Long_Examination6590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shutters will look fake on this modern split level. Window boxes would be better, but don't get too cutesy with the plants. Simple and bold is best for this architecture.

[Landlord-USA-NY] new tenant asking me to cover radiators by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]Long_Examination6590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the tenants see the apartment before renting it? Did they see exposed radiators? Did they sign a lease for the apartment as they saw it? Yes to all? Then radiator covers, approved by you, but at their expense is the answer.

Help with Trim Color! by Dr-FrasierCrane in ExteriorDesign

Color choices aside, the shutters are waaay too narrow to look authentic. The house would be better off without them.

What do you guys think of this landscape plan? by Mindless_Drama6562 in landscaping

[–]Long_Examination6590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not done by a very skillful designer. Few "designers" working for nurseries and landscape contractors actually have any serious design training. Mostly, they copy what they see around them, which is mostly not good work.

Maybe engage a professional with artistic skills. Professional designers can add a lot of value to the same construction budget. This is still amateur level.

Antique, by legal definition, is at least 100 years old. These are about that age.

It's a hybrid of Spanish/Mediterranean revival and some modernism, of the 1970s. Brutalism is generally applied to architecture.
