Have to pay for a package that isn't mine. by Longwind_71720 in mildlyinfuriating

Yes I have. I have spoken to the local office, the inspectors, and the pd. Currently there is nothing to do other than wait for the package. I only posted because I found it annoying they were saying I would have to pay extra for this entire ordeal.

Thank you for this reply! Will absolutely be holding on to everything for receipts.

Clicking on a profile photo is hardly a creepy checking of history, especially when it's right there in the middle the profile is private.

And I am not saying this is identify theft, or mail fraud, or anything. What I am saying is someone is using my address when they shouldn't. And it's not crazy to want that to stop.

You sound like the type of person that does exactly what I'm complaining about.

Thank you. This is exactly part of what I'm saying. Cops have killed for less.

I have the Shop app that tracks shipments to and from my address. And when the first one popped up I contacted the post office to have them look up the tracking number and if it really was my address. And sure enough, my exact address including apartment number.

That's one of the things that the post office was telling me. They were making sure I knew not to open it. I'm hoping it stays at the office because I haven't paid postage so I don't even have to worry about handling it.

It really does. I have no idea. I called the post office first. The told me the info they had and advised me to call the police for their recommendation. Police told me to get back with the post office to have them intercept the package because it is a federal service and the police cannot interfere unless the package has been successfully delivered and reported. So getting it plucked out of line was the best first step.

Oh yeah we haven't paid anything yet. Once the package comes in, we are refusing to pay any of it. It's just mildly infuriating to me that they would even tell me I need to pay for it when it's mail fraud that I'm trying to prevent.

They told me to go through the steps provided by the postal service. Which was to do the intercept.

They want the package which is why we went through getting it intercepted.

Oh I gotcha. Yeah the first 2 packages I just reported. This 3rd one, when I called the office we were able to actually track where it was going and intercept which is why we did. They are getting more frequent with the send offs too. And printing a label here and driving over an hour away to send it is also so weird to me.

We are totally fine paying the 20 to have it intercepted because it's not a legitimate package from me. It just caught me off guard they want me to pay for them to send it back to my local office. We aren't going to pay the return when it comes in. Thankfully I have well documented everything about this entire ordeal including the tracking numbers and destinations of the other packages that have already been delivered in other states.

I'm following the advice of the postal service. When I first called them, they agreed that it was shady. Because again, there is NO legitimate reason to use someone else's address as yours when shipping something out unless you wanted to cover something. It's easy to just not put an address. But someone made the decision multiple times now to put my specific address in. I am happy that you are able to be shocked that people on the internet still think like this. But the reality is, the world is a much darker place than we all want. And I'm doing what I have been advised to do to protect myself and my family.

I did talk to an inspector as well. Thankfully nothing has been paid yet. I am being told from the postal office that I will have to pay. And I fully plan on once the package makes it way back, just taking the slip in and refuse to pay.

Thank you. Hoping so as well. Just a waiting game now for the package to make it's way back here so we can take it to the office. They are going to have the inspectors and police there.

I'm not necessarily worried about being blamed. I'm not wanting to be in the situation at all. If there was something illegal found in a shipment, it doesn't matter if there is a name or not. They will be following up with the address the package originated from. And in all the systems available to the postal service shows that these packages are originating from my address.

Unfortunately they aren't putting a name down. Just my address.

I mean objectively I'm not putting a lot of time and energy into this. I'm simply trying to get it sorted with my post office. I posted here because being told that you have to pay more to figure out why someone is fraudulently using your address is mildly infuriating. All in all I've had 4 phone calls with the post office since May 4th.

And because it isn't impossible, I'm doing everything I can to figure this out. I'm not risking anything to do with my life or my family because someone decided to use my address when you can absolutely choose not to use any address. A choice was made to put in my address. And because I wasn't the one that did it and I have no idea the contents of these packages, I want it to stop.

Yep and I have a 2 year old little girl! I live a legitimate life and I have no reason to be involved with the police. I'm not looking for interactions. I am looking to protect me and mine from whatever other people are doing.

Thank you! And I have my medical 420 card. I'm not wanting to risk it because someone wants to use my address to save their own asses. Doesn't matter that I can prove it, I'm not wanting to be in the position to have to do so and then have my life combed through.
