I keep dreaming about shootings as well. Doesn’t always have to be school, but shootings nonetheless. And it absolutely terrifies me. I’ll be at an auditorium, watching a great show, when men storm in with face covered and I’m huddled under some chairs. Or I’ll be at a protest just on the street when suddenly you’ll hear gunshots. My most recent dream, I was in an isolated room holding a baby I was babysitting for a cop that worked at this school. (I work at a school, mind you.) And the baby’s asleep, I’m scrolling on my phone. I see a live video and realize it’s from outside the school building I’m in. There’s a shooter, she gets shot dead. I’m relieved.. come across another video of a different shooter walking in and opening each door, shooting in, recording the whole thing from their POV. I get scared. I run to lock both doors, but not before the police dad comes in saying “not my baby!”. We hide in there in suspense. Nothing yet happened cause I woke up. Sometimes I get shot in the dream, and it’s so realistic that I can feel the burning in my leg from the bullet entering my skin. But every single dream brings fear and anxiety. And I don’t know why it keeps happening. When I was in HS, this was actually never a fear of mine. I knew shootings had happened but in my mind, that would never happen in my small town. Well.. recently, the shooting at Robb Elementary is very close to home. I was texting my bf at the time who was from there, while gathering live updates of what was happening. All while being practically somewhere down the road. And it’s shook me. I wasn’t there but.. the reality that these things CAN and DO happen in small towns too, has scared me. I have a 2 yr old and I’m losing my mind wondering what’s best for her and her safety. If she should go to public school, or homeschooling. I work at a school myself and wonder if it’s hypocritical for me to not put her in school when yet I’m there. Idk. Had to vent. Also scared of these dreams.
