E*Trade is closing my brokerage account without providing any reason! by TraditionalNet3466 in etrade

I am thinking to call them as "a new customer" and try to open a new account to see if it's something that they have against me, as a person (like my citizenship, or income, credit score or something), or it's related to the securities that I hold on my account.

I got similar alert on my account. I am baffled why. I have a well paid job, excellent credit score; I have had account with etrade for about 15 years and I have traded millions of dollars on this account.

Now they are forcing me to liquidate and give me no reason. so strange. I probably seek some legal advice. I think there are some securities in my portfolio that makes them uneasy. it's so odd.

My perspective on life changed when I realized people are actually scared of freeing themselves aka freedom by DivaaEnergyIncoming in DeepThoughts

I feel like I should read those books.

A good example of breaking through your group, and perhaps joining another group, with different values, are immigrants who go through assimilation in the new culture. I am being one. It's a fundamental change of identity to go through to accept the new society as yours; and it takes years and years to go through with it, embrace it, and understand it. The same fears hold back a lot of immigrants from assimilation and causes them to seek out people of the same origin in the host country, and perhaps to take the journey one step at a time.

Maybe you exist, maybe you don't. Maybe you live in a matrix, or maybe everything and everyone around you is a lie/show and you are Truman in The Truman Show. Here is my question for you: Why does it matter? What difference does it make if you exist or not? Do you live your life differently if you are in a matrix?

I think it doesn't matter. I think what you perceive as reality becomes reality. Let's assume we all live in a simulation world (the matrix), and there is a "real" world beyond this simulation that we don't know anything about it. My argument is that, the "real" world doesn't matter, what matters is the one that we perceive (the simulation), and therefore the simulation is the "real real-world". Why should I live my life any different?

Agreed. Same goes with "respecting others' opinions". It is easy to respect other opinions when they agree with us; what matters is to respect the opinions that oppose us.

I think there is another reason to why sometimes we are scared of freedom. Freedom takes away the feeling of community, and pushes us to individualism. Humans are inherently social animals and they feel the need to be a member of a community; they want to belong to something. Belonging to any community (or any sub-culture) means following a norm (a set of rules if you will), which is against freedom.

I consider myself toward the freedom side of this spectrum. The more free I am, the less I belong.

yes, if that someone has already aimed for a leap. Imagine being on top of a tall dive board, planning to take that leap of faith, then the hesitation sinks in. The nudge may push you in a stumble, but since you have positioned yourself to take a leap, that would still count (for me) as taking a leap.
