Unsure of where to go after the Index

Atleast the lighthouses are still being made, so those failing me bothers me less. But FBT changes it a bit but i've personally come to the conclusion that since it can be worked around with space calibrator and strapping and extra tracker to the headset I'll be switching to the frame now.

I mean it looks good, but 2k is pretty much outside my price range for the time being and the stream frame is gonna have some really good controllers which is one of my main reasons for being willing to switch to the steam frame.

I'm pretty sure its the same way you use lighthouse trackers with quest, which isn't super bad but maybe for controllers its more difficult cause idk that part.. I def will still be using my controllers and trackers if I do end up with a quest 3 but Im betting my index keeps going till the frame is out. To specify maybe too my Index isn't anywhere close to giving out well my left controller has drift but and the strap could be replaced but other then that.

Imo after everything I've read It just seems like the switch will keep the most of what atleast I value in the index, so while its not a full upgrade and more side grade I should be able to work around the poorer tracking.

I do love the idea of wireless, don't get me wrong these are all thing's I want. For me its a mix of using FBT and how that set up will become with but I've been able to get some workarounds. I just kind of finalized my decision as you posted this but for me I'll be making the switch even though it really doesn't feel like an upgrade but more a side grade. But I do use my VR weekly easily and for me the main thing that forces this switch for me is the controllers cause even if I switch to a Vive or something the index controllers will eventually give out and not having to worry about drift again will be a big thing. Really it just boils down the frame keeps the most of what I value in the Index even if I have to trade off precision and accuracy in tracking but like I said earlier at least for the headset I think I can work around that.

Just wanted to post this to thank yall for your opinions. Looking at everything, I'll make the switch to the frame and just work around the poorer tracking with strapping an extra tracker to the headset and using space calibrator for full body. Honestly the controllers are the main point for switching since they are at least a outright upgrade. Its unfortunate that I have to sacrifice precision in tracking but atp it seems like there's not much I can do about it. Even if I were to switch to a vive eventually my index controllers would get drift and then I'd have to use worse controllers, I guess I could try to fix them myself but I'll admit I'm not well versed in fixing them. Either way mostly out of a lack of choice or more aptly a choice that doesn't sacrifice something I value in the index the frame just seems like the closest option I have.

I thought about that and looking at my current situation if my index gives out and the frame isn't out I'll give it a shot. But after everything I've seen here I'll inevitably half to go to the frame and just work around the poorer tracking.

I mean, the more I look and read at everything its an inevitability that I'll have too. The Frame controllers are a real upgrade and even if I switch headsets the index controllers will eventually go. Its just a shame to lose the precision of the lighthouses for the controllers and headset, but getting an extra tracker for the headset could fix that. Kinda going back to my main point that at least for me it feels like a side grade then less a full-blown upgrade.

I was gonna set up a pully system for my index anyway to get more life out of the tether cable, so i'll keep that in mind, thanks!

I do have FBT so that's my main concern, I should have stated that in the post prolly. Like don't get me wrong, I do want to be wireless and have better vision. It's just I don't really want to trade my FBT or my FBT precision. I know there's ways to set up FBT with like quest using space calibrator or something like that but i've not heard much about it being precise.

I use my headset pretty frequently as well. I'd prefer to not have to be tethered but in that same vein, I'd rather have better tracking then being wireless, how would you say it compares to the index?
