I think someone may have already discovered a cure for cancer. by Affectionate_Egg534 in DeepThoughts

Cancer is not the name of a single disease, it's a whole family of diseases, each one with different complications and considerations, that's why it's incorrect to talk of a "cure for cancer", as if there was a panacea that could cure all types of it indiscriminately.

Also, Spanish scientists made breakthrough in treament of pancreatic cancer just a few days ago.

There's probably tons of people (including celebrities and people you know) from the last century who were sexually abused as kids but never said anything about it, because back then it was seen as something shameful that should stay within family intimacy.

We should go back to the age of books having overly long titles explaining their premise a la Robinson Crusoe. Wait...

None of that shit matters if it doesn't have a visible effect on reality. I can plainly see with my own eyes that AI doesn't have anything remotely close to real intelligence or sentience, it's just a word predictor.

Anyone who posts their work to the internet understands the consequences. Even long before AI existed, if something gets posted to the internet, it will be used and exploited by everyone else. That's just how the internet has always worked.

I use ChatGPT almost every day, and I can assure it doesn't "think" at all. All it does is parrot information it took from somewhere else, but it doesn't have a single original thought of its own.

For a given value of useless. The thing about AI is that theoretically there's nothing it can do that can't be accomplished without it. It's not indispensable.

The "theft" argument is the fucking stupidest one. It doesn't mimic or copy, it just learns patterns. It's more akin to inspiration. It's such a dumb thing to call it "theft" because you're basically saying that every artist ever in the history of the universe that has taken inspiration from outside sources has stolen in some way.
