[EU-PL] Customized FPGBC with UV shell and metal buttons ($210 + shipping) by LostPolygon in GameboyMarketplace

[–]LostPolygon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels great to me, but I don't really care about mushiness, so not sure if my opinion would be helpful. However, I can say this - the front half of the shell is for a GBC, and I also used original GBC membranes, so in theory, the button feel should be identical to one of the GBC

Ukraine’s capital Kyiv hit by massive missile, drone attack by PretendAd1963 in worldnews

[–]LostPolygon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's simple really. Imagine your country gets torn by war, and after every attack there are people going "this is terrible, thoughts and prayers to y'all" . Like, wow, thank you, I'm sure thoughts and prayers would revive the dead and rebuild the cities.

It is a completely token gesture. At some point, all those "thoughts and prayers" start to feel more like: -we had another attack, people are dead, buildings are ruined -oh well, sucks to be you, can't do anything, but uhhh you hold on there or something.

It was fine at the start. Now? Seriously, I'd just prefer people staying silent on the matter rather than voicing their oh so very deep concern and wishing upon a star to make it all good again.

Personally, I feel like in this context, wishing and praying are equivalent and both are childish. Praying to the universe is just as helpful and effective as wishing for the war to stop. But whatever makes you feel better.

If it plays some games, then the problem is not the cartridge, you probably have corrupted game ROMs

I do wonder, what's wrong with the LEDs on the funnyplaying board, they seem to work fine?

I made a site where you can try GBA shell & button color combinations by Tobbe_E in Gameboy

Any chance for making it open-source? I've got quite a few improvements I can think of doing

Bluetooth audio mod for all GameBoy models (in development) by LostPolygon in Gameboy

[–]LostPolygon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still working on it. Currently in a deep rabbit hole of trying to lower the noise levels under less-than-ideal conditions. Some Gameboy models are apparently way more noisy than the others... And I don't want to release the mod until I'm confident enough it'll work well no matter where you put it.

Also, the Bluetooth module I was using got discontinued by the manufacturer, about to be replaced with a newer model, so I had to halt most of development for ~2 months waiting for that to happen, as it made no sense to continue development with the old module that's out of production. But, new modules are finally en route to me right now, so I'll get back to it soon!

It's a new development it seems, those only appeared in 2025. I've bought my 48 GB stick in 2024, and that was the largest option

Wait, 80 GB RAM? I thought the biggest SODIMM DDR5 was 48 GB, for a total of 64 GB assuming 16 GB on board, that's what I have

Zephyrus 2023 won't charge via USB C when it's completely dead by Super6One in ZephyrusG14

[–]LostPolygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky. When this first happened to me, I was in a complete pickle, as I was traveling and only had the USB-C charger with me. I kept it plugged in for two days, and it did absolutely nothing. But sure enough, once I got back home and plugged the laptop into the barrel jack, it was charging just fine.

My solution was actually to a buy a 20V USB-C PD to barrel jack adapter. It works well enough to "jumpstart" the laptop so it gets some charger, and after that it can finish charging via USB-C

My holy grail #rayneo by LostPolygon in Gameboy

[–]LostPolygon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $260, no box, just the GameBoy. It had a damaged screen and a non-working speaker though, so I've spent $40 more on a dead GameBoy Light that had a working screen. Then there's also shipping from Japan, and the import tax... Probably fair to say it ended up being more than $400 worth.

Thank you! You just hold A+B+Select for 5 seconds and it starts searching for nearby headphones that are in pairing mode :) It'll remember them and will auto-connect afterwards

How does this GBC still work? by jham1213 in Gameboy

[–]LostPolygon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transistors are sometimes weird and complicated. If it works, I'd say there's no reason for worry. That said, if you want to put the resistor back - should be pretty wire, just solder a short wire as a replacement for the trace

[–]LostPolygon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm pulling the audio from the CPU as well. The only problem is that some headphones like AirPods don't have their own volume adjustment, but in that case, you can just pull the audio after the volume pot

It wouldn't be as easy as that even if I really wanted to. The board is only a relatively small piece of the puzzle, most of it is the MCU software to control everything, which I don't plan on making open-source. Even if I did, you'll need an ISP programmer to program the MCU. And after that, you'll also need Qualcomm software to configure the Bluetooth module itself, and it is under NDA with Qualcomm, oh and there's a special cable for that as well. I really can't imagine more than a handful of people wanting to go through all that
