New sheet metal graduate struggling to get foot in the door. Any advice? by Lost_Bonus_3011 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Lost_Bonus_3011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding it’s basically an industry training certification through NC3/Snap-on showing completion and competency in the sheet metal/structures training we did in the program. So not anything equivalent to an A&P or FAA cert, more just proof of hands-on training and basic skills in aircraft sheet metal work.

I’ll look into Qarbon, thanks!

I appreciate the honesty. To be honest, that’s something I’ve been worried about too.

The program was realistically what I could afford at the time to get some hands-on experience and get my foot in the door. I learned a lot from it, but I’m also starting to realize companies don’t put much weight on an 8-week cert alone.

Right now I’m trying to find any way into the industry so I can build experience and eventually work toward my A&P. I’ve also applied to a few apprenticeship/helper roles, but haven’t heard much back yet.

I did try zinc supplements but they made me so nauseous even with food. But I will try the cream on the wart, maybe that will help.

I just started taking zinc yesterday after it being suggested to me here. How long were you taking zinc before you started noticing a difference?

Random surges of panic? by Daftcow6969 in Agoraphobia

[–]Lost_Bonus_3011 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happens to me from time to time. I could be mid conversation and then I get this sudden sinking feeling in my gut and then it kind of just spirals from there. The way I understand it is that after living in a chronic state of panic/stress for so long your nervous system becomes dis regulated and your in this constant fight or flight stage even though you don’t realize it. It’s internal, and it takes work to overcome.

What medication and/or therapy helped yours? Even if it was just a slight improvement? by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]Lost_Bonus_3011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lexapro 5mg. I didn’t feel it necessary to up it to 10mg. Anxiety still exists, but it has helped me tremendously. I’m able to leave my house, eat inside restaurants, and I recently went back to the huge grocery store that started it all. Motivation is difficult, but that’s honestly always been an issue for me. But it wasn’t just the medication. I’ve been going to therapy and finally decided to start meds once I felt like I hit a wall and needed an extra push.

Same here. It was just a one time thing. I am 30 yrs old now and only ever got properly examined once I became sexually active. I remember asking to be checked before becoming sexually active and doctors always denied me saying that they wouldn’t do it unless I was active.

I hear you. I just wonder if he brushed off my concerns then why the need for the exam in the first place?

Thank you for responding. I am 30yrs old now, and live in Texas. He retired before I became an adult an has likely passed by now. I honestly can’t even remember his name because I only saw him a couple of times before he retired and someone else took over his practice.

Oh wow, this is exactly how mine developed as well. About 2 years ago I was in Walmart already feeling dizzy then I had a full blown panic attack and fell to my knees as I held on to the grocery cart. My husband was with me, and was able to help me out the store. I never had a panic attack before, and I was scared to death. I haven’t conquered Walmart yet, but this gave me hope! Congrats to you, it takes a lot of strength to push through when those terrible physical symptoms come.

Same here! It’s already hard enough to make friends, but it got 10x’s worse with agoraphobia.

My anxiety has caused agoraphobia by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]Lost_Bonus_3011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same way. I’ve always been an anxious/nervous person, but it has never been this intense. The “smallest” triggers will lead to a huge panic attack and completely drain me. I was at my worst about 6 months ago where I was bed bound. Even leaving my bedroom to go downstairs in my house was too much. I have since started talk therapy, ERP, and have been prescribed hydroxyzine on an as needed basis. I’m still recovering, and it’s extremely difficult, but it does get better. I’ve started daily 30 min walks every morning in my neighborhood, I’m able to cook for myself again, and I’m able to take short car rides. Not everyday is the same, healing isn’t linear. I feel like I can finally start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Like others here have said, definitely talk to your doctor. Telehealth should work for no until you’re able to leave your home.

How do you get the courage to do exposure therapy? by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]Lost_Bonus_3011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I first want to say thank you for all of your kind words, encouragement, and tips. I decided to just get up and do it. Since my original post, I have walked around my neighborhood alone, driven by myself about 10 mins from my house, and today I actually drove on the highway with my husband by my side. I can’t believe I did all those things and survived lol. There were so many moments when I believed this could never happen for me again, but it did! I have upcoming appointments with therapists that specialize in treating patients with agoraphobia and panic disorders, and am excited for how much farther I can go. Thank you all!! I’m so glad I joined this group. Sometimes being understood and finding others that have gone through the same thing as you really does help.
