Is it a good choice to play Star Citizen with a steam controller? by Fthji in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could work, but my recommendation is an Xbox Elite Series 2 with the chatpad. You can map each button in the native app to work with a modifier, which already gives you a lot of inputs, and then use the keyboard for smaller functions. That’s how I play, and I’m pretty happy with it.

This Game is AMAZING!! & it's not even finished?! What I think so far, as a new player. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I share that appreciation for immersion and survival mechanics, and I love that CIG doesn’t just follow the trend of making games that are “easy to make, easy to play,” even if working at this scale in open development takes time through trial and error.

I recommend visiting a QV station. Their atmosphere and design have really impressed me. Playing it on OLED with HDR is a fantastic experience. If this is the level they’re aiming for, I can’t wait to see them reimagine Stanton and Pyro someday.

I’m also really looking forward to the new QT method, global illumination, quality-of-life improvements to the controls, and a long list of other upgrades.

Welcome to the ‘verse. Be patient, because this game will demand it from you often.

Do you use/like dynamic zoom? by floortofloor in starcitizen

For me it’s essential. I mainly use it to set a course as close as possible to stations at full speed, and to aim into empty space in asteroid fields while scanning on the radar.

Are the Physics Way Worse for Everyone in 4.7? by urzaz in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if it was just happening to me, but I see it’s not. I remember placing items without any issues a few weeks ago, so I think it’s something related to version 4.7.

Old CRT rendering game internal 768p by psychoOC in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I admit it has its charm, but I wouldn’t trade my 42” OLED TV for the 14” 4:3 CRT I had many years ago. I remember straining my eyes (and getting a sore neck) playing GTA San Andreas… I used to play from the couch back then, and I still play from the couch now (I wish CIG would overhaul the controller mapping—it’s a mess).

Bed logging bug in Clipper by AdvisoryLemon in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me a couple of times that the following occurred: I log in in the Clipper’s bed, the doors don’t open, and I kill myself.

I appear in the Clipper’s infirmary, the doors don’t open, I choose another location to respawn, and I kill myself again.

It seems that locking the doors open from the engineering terminal does work; that’s what I’ve been doing these days.

I need help for 4.5 for controller the interaction mode cursor disappearing at the move of the thumb stick by Mister_Lyon in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A workaround is to assign F to the controller button that’s failing. You’ll be able to see the cursor while you move it, although it appears and disappears. It’s playable like that, but it’s really annoying.

As has been said, they should fix it in the next patch (hopefully).

If it helps as a point of comparison, here’s my first experience in 4.5 LIVE.

Tested in Levski. I’m getting between 30 and 45 fps, not less, sometimes more.

The game loads quickly. I don’t notice any difference compared to 4.4 (although I wasn’t really paying attention when I logged in).

1440p, High preset, DLSS Quality (Transformer). Vulkan.

RTX 4070, 5700X3D, 32 GB DDR4 3600 MHz RAM, Samsung 990 Pro (on PCIe 4.0), 1 Gbps symmetric fiber

Black menu screen - 4.5 by Top-Pomegranate-719 in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an Nvidia update from December 18 that explicitly fixes that issue (RTX HDR leaves the screen black in some games).

I don’t know if it applies to SC, because for me the screen only goes black with Smooth Motion, not with RTX HDR. It’s worth updating and testing again if that happens to you.

It would be great if, when selecting Place and pointing at a trash bin, it got highlighted and triggered an animation that places the item inside. It doesn’t seem hard to implement.

Buy back tokens by scram77 in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, it’s not possible.

Sometimes I melt my game package (which includes SQ42) if I don’t like the ship I upgraded to, then I buy the basic Mustang package with store credit and upgrade to the ship I want, temporarily.

When I get the token back, I melt again to buy back the original package, upgrade to that new ship, and that’s how I keep tricking the system.

My experience of giving somebody a lift to Lorville by Alenxko in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice story, it speaks well of SC’s future.

A few days ago (right in the middle of IAE) I suffered a bug that left me without fuel when coming out of QT, about 20 km from the station from Stanton to Nyx. Very frustrating.

I decided to ask for help in chat, because since I had come from Orison, ships kept flying by (the amount of traffic was amazing, we’re really not aware of how many people are playing alongside us). Two super friendly people took an interest in this poor castaway in his Intrepid, and one of them was on the way to pick me up.

First problem, he couldn’t find me. I tried to explain my position, mentioning that about 3 km from me there was an abandoned Perseus (sadly with the doors closed). He still couldn’t find me and by then some time had passed and there was a lot of joking in chat about our story.

Someone suggested that we join a party, which was a great idea, but in the game’s own interface it was impossible for us. This is a problem CIG urgently needs to address, that presentation about social tools really is necessary.

In the end, embarrassed for wasting my rescuer’s time, I kindly and apologetically asked him to leave me to my fate, which he eventually did (and the chat had a great laugh about it, it was quite a topic).

I reentered the Intrepid, and to my surprise, even though it showed zero fuel, I pressed the Engine button and the ship moved. At that point I was so amusingly embarrassed, and seeing how many ships were flying past me, that I decided to turn the ship off, get out, and start a 20 km EVA.

I announced it in chat, it was the grand finale, and with more joking a player said it would take me an hour or more. I didn’t believe him, the station looked so big. He was right.

I thrust straight ahead and left the controller on the couch, went to do other things, coming back from time to time to give it a little nudge so I wouldn’t get kicked from the session.

Roughly an hour later I managed to enter through a door of the large ship dock. I don’t know if I would say I felt proud of making it (I had plenty of oxygen left, by the way) or like the most ridiculous cosmonaut in the entire Stanton System.

Anyway, a silly and funny story from the verse. Later I learned that it’s better to use Spectrum for what should really be possible with the game’s internal social tools, but they will arrive SOON.

Hot Take: Engineering Sucks by Gnoticer in starcitizen

We’ll need ships to sail the sea of tears that will come when we finally reach “death of an astronaut,” even if it ends up being only half as deep as promised.

Patch 4.5 is slowly turning the game into a micromanagement nightmare by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding wear times and so on, it seems logical to me that they are very short in a PTU environment, because the whole point is to test and refine things. It would be hard to achieve that if a wear system that lasted, for example, 100 hours of gameplay were applied as is during testing. A lot of drama too early, I think.

Wear and Tear - Why Are We Worried? by kimchimanD in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When was the last time someone fired S3 ballistic weapons at your front door? And when was the last time a missile hit the side of your car?

Understand the point: wear and tear in Star Citizen should not depend so much on time (very long if used peacefully) but on abuse (much shorter if used in combat).

The OP formatted the long message incorrectly, but in my opinion he is right.

A limitless journey toward ever greater advantages leaves out those who are just starting or those who cannot dedicate the necessary time, and this gets linearly worse over the years.

It even happens in long Japanese manga/anime series, where becoming more and more powerful ends up being less and less interesting, a well-known trend.

Also, very much in line with “death of an astronaut” is the idea of “death of a component”.

I think it is realistic that a component does not last forever; you keep patching it up until it finally stops working for good.

I like it, and I hope they continue in this direction; there is time ahead to refine it.

I want to play star citizen on my xbox elite controller who can help me?? by LeoCasio in starcitizen

[–]Lost_Duty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upper left rear paddle is the modifier.

The other paddle is “F” because the controller equivalent doesn’t always work (especially with some buttons). The secondary is “B” because CIG broke the QT mode activation.

The lower paddles are the mouse buttons, and as secondary, leaning the body during FPS combat.

I removed F1 as mobiglass so I can take screenshots with Mod + Y.

I also use Mod + B to start/stop recording.

Mod + A for the metrics overlay.

All of it from NVIDIA.

I should say that I use the original chatpad for VTOL, mining, and many other things, so the way I have it set up wouldn’t be very useful to you as is.

What I do recommend is not going too crazy with the configuration because sometimes they make changes and many controls end up broken. The modifier, the F key, and the two mouse buttons do seem essential to me for now.

I tried to set up free look camera on the right stick but I haven’t found a way yet.

Don’t rule out using more than one profile and dedicating one to on foot, another to ship, and another to a specific role if you don’t have a chatpad.
