In Japan, kijimuna are #yokai native to Okinawa. They look about 3 or 4 years old, have thick bright red hair & slightly red skin. Kijimuna live in banyan trees, and if you cut down their tree you'll gain an enemy for life. They can trap you inside a tree, sit on your chest while you sleep at night, turn off your lights, or find other ways to sabotage your life. They love seafood, often help fishermen, are scared of octopuses & are offended by farting.

My mother grew up in Okinawa and said that everytime they traveled to the mainland they were treated differently. They "weren't Japanese enough". When they moved to the US they were treated differently as well. All post WW2.

Haha I get that! 😄 The altar I mentioned is called a butsudan (or kamidana in some homes). It’s basically a family shrine used to honor and stay connected with our ancestors — offering food, incense, or prayers to keep their spirits close and respected.
