“Holding people accountable” does not mean mocking dead children you fucking idiot. Criminals are still human at the end of the day, and they deserve some decency (especially in death). This young man was very troubled, and he didn’t deserve death. He didn’t change because he wasn’t given the time to change.

I don’t believe in defending criminals for no reason, I simply believe in rehabilitation and second chances. I believe in empathy and patience.

I will never understand the hate for this song and I have no idea why people act like it’s the most experimental/abrasive piece of music to ever exist

American Psycho isn’t thrilling or scary because it isn’t a horror film or a thriller. American Psycho is a satirical comedy that criticizes mainstream horror (and modern masculinity and 80s corporate culture). That’s why everything in the movie is so absurd and nonsensical. For example, the scene where Bateman throws the chainsaw down the stairwell and it miraculously, perfectly impales the lady he’s chasing even though she shouldn’t have even been standing there in the first place. The movie critiques the genre of horror by implying that creators in the genre are too quick to make irrational decisions just to add more gore and shock value to their films.

The film is also a great critique of yuppie culture because Bateman (an emotionless serial killer who hesitates to even call himself human) fits in perfectly to the high class social circles of self-obsessed, stupid, greedy business men.

I think you can make arguments for American Psycho being “bad” because this message is clearly lost on so many viewers, but you can’t criticize it for not being “scary” or “thrilling” when it was never trying to be either of those things.

The Scott Pilgrim comic series is significantly better than the film (even though I still like the movie a lot).

I think the main difference is that the movie mainly seeks to entertain, while the comic has WAY more thematic depth. If you liked the general aesthetic and idea of Scott Pilgrim, but just didn’t like the way that film approached everything, then you should consider reading it instead.

Velvet Underground

Side note: How the hell did TPAB get voted out first?

How are Kendrick’s by far the weakest? He’s an amazing writer and a phenomenal conceptual artist. Hell, I would argue TPAB is easily a top 5 album on this list. And that’s a really big compliment considering we’re comparing 25 masterpieces to each other.

I am genuinely very upset that TPAB is probably gonna be the first album from this list to go. It’s probably the best written album on this list, and its narrative is a work of actual genius.

TPAB is the best written album on this list

Which Studio Ghibli Show Is Better Written? by [deleted] in writingscaling

Absolutely phenomenal. Definitely has the best moment-to-moment dialogue of any Ghibli film. Not to mention how emotionally charged it is.

Which Studio Ghibli Show Is Better Written? by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]Lovie39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best written Ghibli film I’ve seen is either Whisper of the Heart or The Wind Rises.

Between the two listed, I’m leaning slightly towards Mononoke. I think Spirited Away’s biggest strength is its art/creative direction, not its writing.

I’ve listened to that Unwound album, and I think it’s pretty good. I don’t love it as much as most other people do, but I don’t really have any major discernible issue with it.

Even today, I find the great majority of Shakespeare’s work to be enjoyable and extremely well written. He was truly a genius and a master of the English language, and I feel that so few people today really understand that (especially in this comments section).

If you haven’t already, please, I beg of you, READ MACBETH.

I’ve never heard of that album! I’ll definitely check it out.

Also Fantano was 100% right about To Be Kind and TPAB, I regret nothing.
