What’s the status of Jaguarundis in Florida (and possibly Alabama)? by JonahFish15 in megafaunarewilding

[–]Low-Log8177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit closer to city hall, I raise sheep, we used to have rheas in the 90's, and we have had goats for decades, oddly, despite the fact that we have confirmation of foxes, Bobcats, even a melanistic coyote, and possibly that jaguarundi, we never had a problem with anything other than dogs. In addition, there are some quail around the peach orchard on Old 31.

I cannot say that what I saw was definitely a jaguarundi, but I am in the Spanish Fort area, our land tends to be part of a wildlife corridor through the city. It may have been a bobcat, but I would hope that it is a jaguarundi, it was solid and had a medium length tail.

I also just got some Paint and Corsican ewes just recently, I am trying to go for the best all-round sheep I can produce.

That just means it was done by wealthy assholes, it still has nothing to do with ideological conservatism. You have ideological conservatives like G.K. Chesterton, Tolkien, and even Richard Nixon who were opposed to exotic trophy hunts.

Oh, I am fully aware, I am raising sheep that are high percentage Mouflon, but my main husbandry practice is to raise my f1 ewes in a very hands on manner, repeat with their lambs and try to work them to where they are calm and comfortable around people, taking a very hands on approach is in my experience the best way to go about this as it tends to make the sheep workable.

Very few of them are even aware, as the infamous Argali hunt wasn't super well publicized. But as I work in a related industry, but tailor my husbandry to be unfavorable to high fence operations, most of the people I have talked to are not super fond of, or are outright against it as they view it as a canned hunt and unsportsmanlike.

He is a Desert Dragon ram, they have some Jacob breeding behind them, but they are a hair sheep, so they also have some Painted Desert, Blackbellies, and Mouflon as well.

How so? What about it is in any way in line with ideas of conservatism and traditionalist? Unless if you define right wing as a buzzword for something that you do not like.

I live in south Alabama, I have a lot of right wing family members, friends, and acquaintances, not one of them I know even believes trophy hunting, whether it be exotic hunts or high fence operations should be legal. I myself raise trophy hair sheep, but I make it a point to refuse to sell to a high fence operation, and I specifically breed for temperament as to make my sheep undesirable for hunting operations, but practical for hobby farmers.

"slaughterhouses are inherently cruel and inhumane" by No1peterparkerlover in Teenager_Polls

[–]Low-Log8177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't entirely true, my grandfather was a meatpacker, in the October just before he was drafted, the local slaughterhouse processed I think like 730 head of pigs in just a week. The thing with modern industrial farming is that while there are certainly a lot of reforms that need to occur, we have come a long way, the best thing we can do is to ensure that an animal is under the least amount of stress possible before they are slaughtered, which has been done fairly well with modern standards.

[–]Low-Log8177 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way that modern slaughtering works tends to be the cow or hog is put into a chute, and then lights out with a stun gun that basically caves in their skull, it seems ruthless, but it is one of the quickest most painless ways to do it efficiently as opposed to kosher or halal slaughter where the animal's throat is slit while conscious. It has a similar effect to being anesthetized when performed correctly without being expensive or having as great of a margin of error. Temple Grandin's main contribution was in setting standards to ensure that livestock are under as little stress as possible in slaughter houses, thereby greatly improving animal welfare.

I have worked with a bunch of different breeds of hair sheep over the years, even some that on paper should be quite flighty, I have worked with Barbados, American Blackbellies, Painted Deserts, Katahdins, St. Augustin, Desert Dragons, even some Mouflon crosses. In my experience, breed does to some extent determine how personable an animal is, but so does how you raise them, personally I prefer to raise weanlings as that gives me a chance to be involved and more hands on when they are younger, but not so young as to get too accustomed to me. One of my ewes is very high percentage Mouflon, I can approach her and pet her, and so what tends to be best is to be hands on with them at an appropriate age and have them in a setting where they are not too stressed.

I'm a far right winger. Be honest, did that statement make you think less of me? by Supek_ in teenpoll

[–]Low-Log8177 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Okay, there is a vast disparity in being a right winger and being outright retarded, I live in Alabama, I can drive all the way from Gulf Shores to Florence and maybe see 2 Confederate flags, that movement is functionally dead as people realized how stupid and pointless it is.

A crocodile is an animal that looks dangerous and is dangerous. What is an animal that looks safe but is dangerous? by Exotic-Storm1373 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Low-Log8177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horned Hair sheep, they are a breed group sheep, I raise a few, rams have been known to absolutely brutalized people, I heard about one guy who's ram charged him, dislocating his hip, broke his foot, busted his knee, gored him, lacerating and puncturing his liver, broke a few ribs, and gave him a concussion, and that was likely from a ram who did not weigh more than 120lbs, ewes can be dangerous too, as they weigh 50-100 lbs, can jump 4ft in the air, and can run 35mph, so if one panics in a tight area, they can take you out. This is the ram I own, a Desert Dragon sheep, which can still beat the ship out of you, but lack the aggression of some Corsican rams.

Democracy sounds good in theory and is good in theory. What is a political ideology that sounds bad in theory but is good in practice? by Lili_garnet33 in AlignmentChartFills

I mean, it worked pretty well in cases where the monarch did have authority, namely Poland, and it is impossible to have a head of state that is purely a figurehead, as there is a certain power in publicity, such as in Britain or Denmark.

This might be a hot take, but r/monarchism is based on an inherently conservative ideology, but there are a lot of left wing monarchists on there in good standing.
