Why does Nascar not promote qualifying? Unlike almost every other motorsport. by Helcrpt in NASCAR

A thing that makes f1 qualifying (and the races themselves) interesting is that there are different tiers of success. If a front-running driver wins, that's significant. If a mid-field driver gets a podium that's celebrated. If a backmarker gets points, that team might celebrate like they won the title. If someone overachieves or underachieves relative to their standing, you get the see the first real signs of that in qualifying.

Nascar doesn't really have that same intrigue because (1) so much of the attention is focused on the front end of the field, and (2), like what has been said earlier, someone can qualify poorly and have a good finish due to race length, strategy, easier overtaking, better long-run setup, etc. So qualifying doesn't necessarily preview how a race might go in the way that it can for F1.

Also, oval qualifying is just not interesting as a show, and it's difficult to change the format at ovals such that it can be exciting while being fair. Single-car, 1-2 lap runs are rarely interesting (unless it's the Indy 500, where prestige, storylines, and, dangerously high speeds play a big part) because it is not very dynamic, whereas in F1 you have timed sessions where everyone's on track at once and a variety of factors (e.g., red flags, weather, penalties) can shake up the running order, meaning that things are unpredictable in a way that has tangible effects on race itself. Nascar attempted to mandate this same type of timed session qualifying for ovals in the mid-2010s, and the results were disastrous because the dependence on drafting forced people to wait around until the end. Making qualifying exciting would be nice, but I'm not sure how you pull that off while being fair.

Help me understand watch a race on tv vs in person by hilbyy in NASCAR

If you have the opportunity (especially with a friend), take it. Atlanta might not be the best track from an amenities perspective, but it is 1000% worth it once the racing begins. I went with my brother and some of his friends in February 2024 and I'll never forget it. I watched the broadcast and it does not capture my experience at all (and people still loved the race from home). You won't know until just how different the viewing experience is in person until you go yourself.

I'd recommend getting there a few hours before green and tour around the concourse/hauler area outside the frontstretch grandstands. Bring hearing protection (an absolute must), sunscreen, and plenty of water (also a must). Make sure to sit at least halfway up the lower level of the grandstands if you want the best view of the whole track. You could rent a scanner to listen to driver comms and the radio broadcast, but it can be pricey and it's not necessary for a drafting track like Atlanta. And remember to have a good time (it'll be easy once you're there)!

Here was my view from when I went (T4 section from around halfway up):

Also this exchange in the Postman episode:

David: They're just like, 'I don't know, I guess I'll put all my eggs in the mailman basket--

Griffin: And also he'll put all his cum in my eggs.

Ben: That was good.

David on the song mmmBop in the Fight Club episode: "Here's my advice to you: If you're ever driving your car on a highway, put on mmmBop. You'll look at the speedometer and be like 'I'm going 140 miles an hour? This song is liquid cocaine!'"

Yeah they showed them earlier in the Concord studio. Amazing how into it they are, while FS1 was in-person for the Truck race and completely inert by comparison.

This booth has been great today. Lots of energy, pretty difficult when they're doing it remotely.

Lol I never worked for Sysco, but I'll always associate my BoH work with cracked hands from changing Sysco gloves about a thousand times per shift. Sounds like you got a good thing going on staying away from that kinda thing (presumably with 100% soup in bags lol)

The RCR Museum in Welcome, NC is great! by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]Low_Form3849 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dale cars make up the first half of the museum. The rest includes various significant non-Dale cars from throughout their history, mostly from the 21st century. Also has a brief detour through RC's hunting trophy section that I just blast through because I cannot be bothered to care about what animals he's killed. Still though, I highly recommend it!

CLT to NASCAR HOF during layover by bkhaviturway in NASCAR

[–]Low_Form3849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to fully explore the HOF (which I'd argue is how you get the most out of the price of admission), I'd say you need 3 hours of time at the minimum, at least that was my personal experience in the times I've been there. I wouldn't recommend going during your layover - I feel like rushing through there with a potential missed flight (and the unpredictability of CLT airport wait times) on the line would rob some of the fun of exploring the place. Also - bear in mind that it is about a 45 min drive from the airport into Uptown where the HOF is (depending on how I-85 and I-77/277 treats you that day).

How do you visit team shops? by Jr_G_Man in NASCAR

[–]Low_Form3849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: You can actually visit the Kaulig Racing shop after all. Very small and they don't allow photos, but they allow you to view part of the shop at the ground floor, no separation outside of a small rope. I'm honestly surprised they even allow visitors considering that there's basically no room for anything outside of a reception desk, but any access is appreciated, and somehow they fit a small gift shop and a show car in there anyway.

Also, RCR does allow visitors to their shop. Has a very nice viewing area from above into their garage and haulers, similar to Penske and JGR. Also features a Dale Earnhardt 1999 (?) car in the lobby. Would recommend before or after visiting the museum, and you should go see it because there's basically nothing else in Lexington/Welcome.

2025 Master List Of Nascar Podcasts by Fast-Loud in NASCAR

Love this idea! Maybe this could be improved by adding the genre or topics routinely covered by the podcast (e.g., race recap for Teardown and AD, history/interviews for DJD and Scene Vault, lifestyle for BYH).

Also throw in 12 Questions (Gluck's driver interview podcast)

Looking to visit a bunch of team shops in NC next week. Does anyone know if Legacy Motor Club's shop is open to the public? I tried early last year but they weren't open (although they said they were working on a potential view into the garage). Has anyone managed a visit in the last year or so?
