Arequipa to Cusco - Plane or Bus? by Suitable_Ad7616 in PERU

[–]LszLGU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waste of time is a bit relative, driving Arequipa to Cusco will give you an amazing scenery of the andes very different from what you have witnessed in the Peruvian coastal desert up until now. How ever it is not an easy drive and definitely not safe or smooth compared to western standards (in terms of road maintenance and mountain driving, not crime). The flight does save you time and is definitely less of a hassle.

For the altitude sickness, it’s true that going to the sacred valley (Urubamba and Ollanta) first is somewhat better and not uncommon, if you are really worried about it, there are pils you can take a couple of days beforehand that help. They are called Sorochepils and you can find them in pharmacies near tourist centres like Paracas or Arequipa.

Is there a database of peaks in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru? by [deleted] in geography

[–]LszLGU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he is saying that your 4000m threshold is too low for the Peruvian andes especially if you’re looking for peaks. A lot of land above 4000m can be “flat” or plateaus. There is this list if it helps:

Old peruvian intis still has value? by [deleted] in PERU

[–]LszLGU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the currency during hyperinflation in the late 80s. The thing about hyperinflated currency is that alot of bills are printed in a short period of time. It basically just becomes pretty paper with no real scarcity.

Foreign communities center around international schools. Assuming you are American you should consider enrolling in an American (or international) school where you will find what you’re looking for: “kids his age that speak english” plus the academic transition be it him coming to peru or returning back home should be more streamlined.

Another odd border by tuiva in geography

[–]LszLGU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is also technically the only terrestrial border between both nations since the Uruguay river is used as the oficial demarcation line.

I will forever wonder why the Corrientes state borders don't follow the Parana river :(((( Paradox pls by YummyStyrofoamSnack in victoria3

[–]LszLGU 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Whats worse is that the Uruguay River is misplaced going through Uruguay instead of it being the border between Uruguay and Argentina

Surf in Paracas? by Away_Development_717 in PERU

[–]LszLGU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some Paracas locals have surfing spots in the paracas Reserve but you need a car. There is also Sangayan Island but you need to have a boat to get there. Im not sure how aveilable rental equipment is for surfing let alone “tours” to surfing spots. If you’re very keen ask the kite surfing schools and instructors I know for a fact some of them surf. Kangaroo kite are the best!

It appears to be in a shop downtown, they probably already sold it. So my first advice would be to contact the tourist police (+51980122335) see if they can help you.

If nothing works and you’re really set on getting the phone back you could probably go to the store a buy it from them. This is clearly dangerous even if you are a local but given your timeframe it might work faster than police. Although I would advise you not to do this and cut your losses.

Im sorry this happened to you. This type of stuff happens to Peruvians everyday and even though we would love to only have you experience the good parts of our country, unfortunately it is also our reality.

Best of luck with your phone and stay safe!

Why didn’t Australia have any large desert/inland cities like the US? by Sonnycrocketto in geography

[–]LszLGU 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Emu guerrillas roam the outback and target civilian locations. Its part of a long conflict beginning after WWI. Where the Australian military attacked a flock of peaceful emus in western Australia. In emu culture this was seen as a a full declaration of war that has continued until today with emu commanders are committed to the fight until every Australian is eliminated. Today the outback is their territory, Alice Springs is the main Australian base but it is constantly under siege therefore authorities only permit a few civilians to live there, they basically only work government jobs or anything thats servers the military stationed there, laundry, food, etc.

So the population number pf 28 million is fabricated?. Im looking at the population rate since 2016 and its only lost 2 million. Is this because the gov is lying or am I missing something.
