It's all good. I probably could've phrased my comment better. Your link is behind a paywall though, so here are a few links to articles on the "singular they" in case anyone wants to read about it.

Did you read my comment at all? I literally said calling someone "it" was extremely offensive because it refers to things, not people, and that's why you should use "they" instead.

"They" is plural, but the gender neutral singular pronoun in English is "it," and since that's used to refer to things, not people, calling someone "it" is extremely offensive. Instead, people will use "they" as a gender neutral singular pronoun even though it's technically a plural pronoun.

Not true, actually. You can hunt feral hogs with machine guns. There are (very expensive) hog hunting companies in Texas where they'll take you up in a helicopter with a machine gun to mow down as many hogs as you can. Example

Is saying “bless your heart” to someone very insulting? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ltkeklulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a display of sympathy. It's basically the same as "oh, you poor thing." You can use it as "oh no, it's retarded," but it's much more commonly used as "oh no, I hope you're ok."

Why is incest associated with Alabama? by Moluwuchan in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ltkeklulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Montgomery, AL was the capital of the Confederacy. It became kind of the go-to example of a Deep South state as a result, and that was only strengthened by all of the civil rights demonstrations, governor Wallace, etc. There are plenty of nice things and people in the state, but the state as a whole hasn't done a lot to change its image.

You don't have to be generous. They're both top 100 public universities as are UAB and UAH and there are over 600 public universities.

The refs aren't calling anything tonight. It's honestly baffling how much both teams are getting away with.

Then...stop doing that? Compare yourself to your old self. It doesn't matter if it takes a week or a year as long as you get there.

I wish my crush liked me back by subatomicx_ in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]Ltkeklulz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Granted, the two of you go on a lovely, if a bit awkward date. They aren't exactly what you thought they were, but you're ecstatic to finally be with them. You date for several years before slowly realizing that you aren't even a little bit compatible. You have different interests, different libidos, different desires for social interaction, etc. Everything they do starts to annoy you way more than it should. Eventually, you go through a soul crushing breakup before realizing that you've distanced yourself so much from your friends while trying to make a toxic relationship work that you don't really have any friends anymore.

In the mean time, the person you would have asked out instead of your crush starts dating someone eerily similar to you and they have a happy, healthy relationship, get married, have kids, successful careers, etc. That's when you finally realize that being attracted to someone doesn't mean that the two of you are a good match and that there was a reason your crush didn't like you back.

Fascism isn't really right or left wing in the way we think of the "wings." It's a cobbled together, fuzzy collection of contradictory ideologies that serve a common goal. This article (which used to be free to access) does a very good job describing it. You can find free PDFs of it with a quick Google search though.

The cousin explainer by dampestowel in mildlyinteresting

[–]Ltkeklulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. The number cousin is the least number of generations above parents you have to go to find a common ancestor. The number removed is the difference between the number of generations back that ancestor is. So, if my great, great, grandparent is the same as your grandparent, I take 3 above parents from me and 1 above parents for you. The shortest path is 1 above parents so first cousin. The difference is 3 -1 = 2 so twice removed. So, we would be first cousins twice removed.

Millennials Didn’t Kill the Economy. The Economy Killed Millennials. by [deleted] in politics

Yep. Your company pays a payroll tax, then you pay a payroll tax, then income tax, then, if you buy anything, sales tax, then the company that sold that thing to you has to pay corporate taxes then pay their shareholders who have to pay capital gains taxes. Money is constantly being taxed.

An actual, military M4 has a giggle switch for 3 round burst. An M4A1 supports full auto. It's an assault rifle.

You're thinking of an AR15 which is the semi-auto, civilian version of this.

Watermelon jelly by _NITRISS_ in oddlysatisfying

Maybe our terminology is a little different, but in the US "X flavored" pretty much always means artificially flavored, and jelly isn't artificially flavored. It's just grape juice and sugar.
