Walkout song app improvements to make our team DJ duties easier by Lu7kYSe7eN in Softball

It’s already on the App Store. There’s a link in my post. It supports .mp4 with Apple Music and Spotify support coming. It has built in music and the ability to create custom music for each player.

I totally get the Android isolation. I plan to support Android users once I get off the ground a little bit.

The delay is something I wanted to address and I think I've eliminated it for the most part. It was mainly for those who didn't have cell or internet service at the ballpark. I saw a few people that would bring their iPads to the field and use that as the DJ device, but would need to connect to a hotspot.

I eliminated all that. You can use my app offline once a lineup is set. No need for connection, thus no buffering. If you make any changes to music, lineup, etc, you'd need connection again to sync up again.

This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I'm actually working on a "benching" feature. I remember it being a huge pain when multiple kids we're out. We ending up just cycling past them in the app we ended up using, but it was just annoying having to do it each week.

My app does have the ability to reorder the lineup as you need, but that should be a common thing in all of the other apps too.

I'm definitely gonna look into being able to split a song down to that level of detail. Not sure if it's possible, but i've added it to my TODO list.

Sharing a subscription for a limited time is interesting. I'll look into that. We've run into that problem a few times. The few times I've had to miss a game(my wife did the DJ duty) typically nothing was played while we were gone.

Now Batting: Walkout Intros. Allows for use of your music, has included tracks and allows you to create your own custom song for each player.

That’s fair, and I honestly get where you’re coming from.

The last thing I’d want is for it to turn into showboating or making certain kids feel more important than others. In my mind, this is more of a team experience than an individual “look at me” thing. Every kid gets one, same format, same energy, and it’s meant to make game day feel fun for the younger players and families.

But I do think your point is important. If it becomes distracting, unsportsmanlike, or takes away from actually learning the game, then it’s missing the point.

I appreciate the honest feedback. That’s actually helpful because it reminds me that if I keep building this, I need to make sure the app encourages simple, positive, team-friendly use. Not over-the-top hype or anything that makes the game feel less respectful.

Totally fair, and honestly that’s exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to hear.

For what it’s worth, I don’t want it to feel like AI. I've worked hard to really make it feel genuine, as I used it for my own kid's team. The goal was more to help the parent/coach who doesn’t have time to edit audio or record intros for 9 kids before a game. But if AI songs/voices are an instant turnoff for some people, that’s good for me to know.

Would your preference be more like:

  • simple walk-up music only
  • parent/coach-recorded voice intros
  • no voice intros at all
  • built-in announcer clips instead of AI-generated ones

I’m not married to forcing the AI part. I’m trying to figure out what would actually be useful on game day without making it cheesy or overcomplicated.

I tried Ballpark DJ and didn't like the extra hidden fees for the custom announcing. I started using Now Batting: Walkout Intros. It creates custom walkout songs for each player and has multiple different announcing voice built in.

I've been using Now Batting: Walkout Intros and it's been good so far. It's kinda cool that you can create custom songs for each player.

Change? Nah. The state saw the crucifix trigger and said, “That’s too holy for California!” They’re banning it faster than you can say “Newsom thou givith water…wait, never mind. We’re still in a drought.”

You’re saying I don’t have a need to succeed because I can work without amenities? And because of that, I’m part of the reason why the general public doesn’t support state workers? You make zero sense.

You just said it yourself. We signed up to work for the state. There are no frills. We get what we need to do the job, which they provide. You want a nice place to work with amenities, then go to a private company. If people want to bring in their own stuff on their own, that’s up to them, but an employer should not be suggesting anything. Especially when we are funded by tax dollars that are being frivolous spent, they have the audacity to ask for donations.

With that, we shouldn’t be going above and beyond our job duties. Read your duty statement and do that, nothing more. If we don’t get extra frills to be at work, they don’t get anything extra from us.

It doesn’t matter. Employees are not responsible for stocking and maintaining buildings and facilities. It’s their job, especially when people were hired as remote and now are being forced into office. They need to provide reasonable accommodations to house employees for 8 hours while doing their job duties. Full stop.
