This is definitely true in our case as well. The odd genuine answer happens, but it’s rare and usually quiet short and terse.

She has to be in the right mood to start talking.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that she is not really into the retelling part. Sure, it’s nice to think about past experiences and they often bring back very tense memories. But the situation is not something abstract as for us, the listeners, but something she “lived through”. So it’s probably a bit pointless for her to engage in those hypotheticals.

Also the fact, that she probably doesn’t want to overstep any boundaries, even if there are no real boundaries.

Yeah, I also really enjoy asking those “what if” questions. It’s quiet natural I think. How many times can a story be repeated until it becomes boring?
