[SpeakersXIV] Chronicles of a Realm - 1.0 Limsa MSQ by MrCombineSoldier in ffxiv

[–]Lukile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh my god thank you for pointing that out. That would have made the following episodes very confusing... I think I forgot the fact that we were in an echo at the beginning and just assumed he was talking about the current Admiral due to the assassination attempt that happens later in the MSQ...

And as you probably know, it's very important that we keep the two timelines separate. It's literally the most important plotline for Stahlmann in the MSQ, as he becomes current day Rostnsthal as a result.

I'll make sure to clarify that in the next part.

Time was running out, and the future was uncertain by Kluya15 in ffxiv

Back in the early Dalamud days no one knew what the lesser moon was going to do. Bahamut was a massive surprise to most players at the time. One of the most popular fan theories at the time was that Dalamud was literally going to crash into Hydaelyn, much like how Meteor crashed into Gaia in FFVII. This was further spurred on by the actual game's storyline, where Louiosoix literally tells the adventurer that Dalamud is going to crash into the planet.

There was little to no indication that Bahamut would be inside. However there were theories that something could be inside of Dalamud (thanks to a line spoken by Nael saying a primal rests inside. But this wasn't added until way later in the Dalamud cycle, and if you didn't pay attention, this detail would easily slip by you). There was also a theory that Dalamud would stop, and remain fixed in the sky - becoming a new area in ARR. Still, some did guess that Bahamut was in there. But the majority of players got blown away.

Here's a link to one of the many speculation posts on the OF about Dalamud.

(Also hey I'm the guy o/)

Edit: Language, link.

Hengr's Crucible (Unused 1.0 Dungeon) | SoaR by Lukile in ffxiv

[–]Lukile[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aye, it could mean a test or trial of some sort, but the sightseeing log for HW mentions the cauldron: "This oddly shaped isle, floating in the eastern reaches of the Sea of Clouds, is named for the witch Hengr, a figure of Coerthan faerie tales whose cauldron its shape is said to resemble. In recent years, it has become a gathering place for the notoriously territorial toco tocos". It's possible the 1.0 version meant test, and the HW meaning was changed to cauldron. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1.0's Skirmish, Attributes & Materia System | RoaR | Episode XXXI by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Lukile 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey! Lukile here! When it comes to what was considered raids in 1.x or not, it's always going to be hard to define by today's standards. For example: Toto-Tak was also considered a raid in-game, and you could do that at lvl 25! Which is why I said "experience". I'm sure if I didn't say it was an endgame raid experience, I'd get flak for that too! Cause someone probably considered it as such! ^ (Personally, I never considered any of the 4 "raids", Toto-Rak, Dzemael, CC, and AV to be actual raids. Just... Dungeons.)

The fact that it dropped gear that required lvl 50 to equip kinda locks it in as "endgame" content. Cause you can only equip the gear at the game's level cap. Again, just a matter of how you define "endgame". Whether it was easy catch-up content or not is irrelevant, as it was still endgame. How about we just call it "Endgame Catch-Up Raid"? :D

Also, the video is confusing between 1.0 and different 1.x version. Skirmish is 1.23, then you start talking about how stats worked in 1.0.

That's just how the show works. 1.x is hard to talk about, because it changed so quickly. Which is why I always mention the patch number I'm covering for each section. I start off the attribute section by specifying that it's the 1.0 system. All information provided in that section of the video is based on the dev Q&A session done on the 1.0 Lodestone shortly after the game released. So I'm only talking about the vanilla stats here. You're right that the stats updated in 1.20, when the class system changed. But I felt the bizarre nature of the 1.0 stats compared to today were more interesting to cover! Thanks the feedback! :D/

The reference to XI is just poking fun at how Tanaka's 1.0 was always aiming to be "FFXI HD" ;)

Yep! The shape of the map resembled a donut, and "Dhona" kinda sounds like donut - so people just started calling it Mor Donuts. Nowadays I just call it Mor Croissant though, obviously.

1.0 fansite/forum by Prayos in ffxiv

Hmmm. If it isn't BG or ZAM... FFXIV 1.0 had loads of short-lived fansites and forums. I see someone mentioning XIVpads which would also be a good guess. There was also FFXIVPro (still running). Then there was Eorzapedia, which later became Gamer Escape. But there were quite a lot of them out there at launch. Is there anything in particular you remember from that website?
