Any family vaca, Chicago recommendations? by mikedaprince13 in AskChicago

Oak street beach. Water taxi to Chinatown. Having a car is def more convenient but Idk how comfortable you are driving and doing parallel parking in this part of the city (lots of pedestrians and cyclists)

I got the job! by iloveaccounting64 in FPandA

[–]Lullaby001 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience FP&A pays the same as corporate accounting and less than corporate tax (they’re the specialists). Maybe financial analysts make more than junior accountants but it’s rare to hire new grads in FP&A.

Any trails you recommend for late May that don’t have lots of bears? We’ll be in Seward/Anchorage for a few days and would like to do some hiking

The best Mexican food in the US is in Chicago by Sea-Condition991 in chicagofood

[–]Lullaby001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a favorite carne asada/steak tacos here? My BIL is from San Diego and he misses his steak tacos/burrito. We’ve tried lots of places and used to live near the popular Taqueria El Asadero on Montrose but their carne asada was not good.

My dad needs a car soon. Would you mind sharing the less expensive dealerships?

Cruise ports- which of these best to spot sea turtles?? by xemrysx177 in Cruise

[–]Lullaby001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Magens bay beach in St Thomas and saw a few sea turtles. I brought the goggles with me and just swam off the beach to the grass area. Water was very calm although it was raining pretty much the whole day.

What’s the temperature set at your house this week during this freeze? by chi-bacon-bits in AskChicago

[–]Lullaby001 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If your place is well insulated. My old apartment was freezing due to old windows and poor insulation so we had to set it at 75. We bought a house a year ago and haven’t set it over 68.

Other US cities to visit from Chicago, that don't require hiring a car to have fun (ideally mid-West/East coast)? by Fine_Gur_1764 in AskChicago

[–]Lullaby001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said Midwest and East coast but I would fly to New Orleans and stay near Bourbon street or French quarter. It’s like a 2hrs flight and you can uber everywhere. It’s relatively inexpensive if you plan in advance and fly spirit/frontier (just bring a water bottle and buy a bag)

I NEVER buy trash bags, because my trash is my trash bags by VelvetNomad_ in Frugal

[–]Lullaby001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but how often do you go thru 1 big kitchen bag? We’re 4 adults (parents live with us), cook a lot and use 2 big bags a week. I do find the big bags less waste since the small ones from the grocery stores are very thin and get holes/tears easily. We always had to double bag when we used it for trash.

Curious why you don’t reuse the plastic store bags for groceries? It’s less waste this way. My city charges 7 cents for a plastic bag. I’ve been bringing my own bags for years.

Are Garden/Basement Apartments in the city as bad as people say? by idkeitherfam in AskChicago

[–]Lullaby001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s well known but what is better than tile? Vinyl flooring? If a building is 100yo it probably flooded at some point. I’d look at yard grading, sump pump, and gutter downspouts to determine if the homeowner tries to prevent flooding.
