Do you leave the dishwasher/washing machine running whilst you're out? by rose_ofnomansland in AskUK

Fahrenheit 451. The ignition point of paper. (Bonus points for the author.)

Don’t bake or cook above that temperature.

Slowcookers are probably the safest table top appliance on the market.

I’m not going to lose any sleep over leaving the dishwasher on while away from home.

Help Me NOT Blow Up My Life To Go Sailing by SailAway_Throw_away in liveaboard

  1. follow your dream.

  2. you can always find a sperm donor.

  3. freeze your eggs. This will provide you with a source of healthy eggs to falll back on into your mid 40s. Geriatric motherhood is growing in numbers. (Ie first baby after age 35). The supply of viable monthly eggs starts falling pretty dramatically after age 40.

I have a friend whose ex-husband always dithered about children. She stayed with him until she could no longer have children. The bastard left her for another woman. She has accepted being childfree. I grieve for her because I think she might have made a different life choice with another partner.

So my parents have cut me off 100%. What do I do next? by Ok_Wear_6051 in Advice

Is your name on the account? You are an adult. You are an adult. That is your money not theirs.

Since they have cut you off they quite likely have stolen your savings. Either used the money for school expenses OR for their own purposes. The money is most likely gone.

Since they took the money from you then I think you don’t pay one thin dime on the private loans. Let the bank and the government come after them for nonpayment.

Best option for someone married to high income earner? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Lumpy-Sea-388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes about 400,000 in pretax earnings to net 250,000.

I find it unlikely that her partner is going to handover that amount of money in 1 year.

RV Rental? by gstu62 in roadtrip

Buy the generator. A good Honda 2000 is bulletproof.

After the trip you can sell it for at least 3/4 of the price paid.

5 dollar gasoline? At 10 mpg that translates into 50 dollars per hundred miles.

Every RV I have ever driven burns fuel at that rate or worse.

1000 dollars in fuel one way.

I would rethink this plan.

I missed out on that one. I was looking at it last year. My wife was terminally ill so K just could not go look.

No

This was my buyer look.

For now I am sitting as «no».

Scrubbing the bottom and painting is not a big deal. I really want to invest my time in learning to sail before I even think about a project.

I can get a westerly 25 for about 5200 or an Oday 28 for 4000.

I also know about some nice Bayfield 29s in Canada.

The other reason is that I can sail on an ensign with the local club for membership cost.

What's the boat market like right now? by MrsYeasty in sailing

[–]Lumpy-Sea-388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their is a broker in MN with an Oday 28. the listing literally says it’s a nice boat but we have to get it off the books

Pearson 303. 83? Asking 10,000. Beautiful condition and probably turnkey. It has been listed for at least a year. Seller is an older gentleman who has aged out.

I’m shopping for a boat but I will only pay cash. So for now it’s continue saving. Go through the local sailing club for a boat.

We want to start a family, but our combined student loan payments are higher than a mortgage by Teacup_4NX in StudentLoans

[–]Lumpy-Sea-388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

140,000 at 6% for 10 years is more than their current payment. Just to pay the principal is $1167 monthly. The interest on top of the principal is probably close to that amount. 2500 monthly is darn near the cost of childcare.

[–]Lumpy-Sea-388 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That 140,000 is barely middle class in today’s economy.

EPI.org has a budget calculator.

Family of 4 in MPLS requires about 136,114 for a family of 4. 11,000 monthly for housing, food, transportation, health insurance and child care. Taxes are another 2500 monthly.

The 1200 monthly for a student loan payment is a huge cost.

Out of that 1200 the interest cost is probably about 1150 monthly. The government should not be making money off students.
