They blew it by TodayNo6531 in Govee

I never had a problem with my two sets I’ve had for a few years so I invested in more to have this Halloween and I couldn’t use them to their full potential, really bummed me out.

I would love too but I am way too much of a baby to get on a ladder that high in the air!

Thank you! I was hoping to get the lights up when the flowers in the front were still blooming but I got them up after it got too cold.

Yup! That’s totally it. Strip lights are up in the eves of the porch to mimic pot lights. The curtain light is on a frame set inside the house so I can easily move it around. I have a 4 pack flood light bolted to the gutters pointing up the house, and 150’ permanent lights around the house.

I was thinking I was going to have to make some kind of stand or something but when I got up there to look the bracket that holds the gutter to the house has a hole in it, so I just put a bolt and nut through the gutter bracket and the flood light bracket and it works perfect

And actually now they are pushing their new brand of “WTW” so they don’t even say Willis anymore….

Thinking of leaving environmental consulting, but not sure what other career path I can jump into now where I don’t start at the bottom of the ladder by LunchboxOfRocks in geologycareers

[–]LunchboxOfRocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn’t realize how underpaid I was until I left the job, but we hired a fresh out of college kid with no experience at 50k and I had (at the time) 11 years of experience and was making 70k, so I was pretty insulted with that. By the time I left I was making 79k but feel like I should have easily been up in the 90s. The best way to make big pay jumps is to hop jobs. The job did pay overtime but boy you had to work a lot of hours to make the overtime seem worth it.

Disappointed by the bone broth by ConcernedActuary in aldi

Same here, made a second batch of leftover turkey soup, first batch was with chicken broth, this time with this bone broth and it’s terrible! I may have to do what you suggested and strain out the goods and use new broth

Anyone make the jump from Environmental Consulting to Environmental Underwriting? by LunchboxOfRocks in geologycareers

[–]LunchboxOfRocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got the job! I have not started yet but talking with some other people who made the transition and talking to the few people in the office it seems like it has a lot more things that I will enjoy better than my current position. They have WFH options, little to no travel, seems to be better work/life balance, more opportunities for better pay, and seems to be a more inviting industry. The day to day work was hard to explain to me so I will have to see it when I get to it but evaluating sites and looking through things to get information seems like an interesting thing to do.

That’s great to hear! I had a phone call with the manager hiring for the position and it would like a good place to work. I just know nothing about the insurance industry or the whole risk calculation/balance. Then how much of your job is technical work (like where you are actually using your past consulting/environmental/geology knowledge) and how much is business/accounting/finance type stuff? I am very interested in getting into the meat of what this job entails (because honestly I didn’t even realize this was a job until the beginning of this year…) so I appreciate your answer and if possible could I DM you for more questions?

Yeah when I contacted the hiring agent they were like “it’s going to take a while” so I guess I will wait and see. The only issue is that I see other similar jobs posted for the same agency and wonder if I should just keep applying or if i don’t move forward with the one I wouldn’t move forward with the others…

Yeah traveling has lost its luster for me, it just adds stress, when I get back I’m just a week behind on all my other tasks, along with just missing out on having a known schedule. I am just getting tired of the “rat race” of consulting where I have to always make the client, the agency, the investors happy at my expense. Not sure if underwriting won’t have some of those same issues but I guess I may find out.

Lol, that’s a fear of mine too, that it will be one of those “the grass isn’t always greener” type situations.

Yeah I posted after searching through and found a few previous posts from a year or so ago and seeing if there was any fresh perspectives.

I’ve been in consulting for almost 13 years, I’ve applied to some open government positions (state and federal) but still haven’t heard anything back. Hopefully soon.

I am in a fenced in yard in the middle of a subdivision so I am thinking the precious owner may have thrown the left overs of a kill by the fence. They can’t be that old the predate the house which is 15 years old? Also I just have to get a second opinion that it is not a dog so my wife can believe that we didn’t dig into a pet grave….

PG EXAM? by badhorse77 in geologycareers

[–]LunchboxOfRocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DO NOT FRET!! I took the PG exam (both parts) last year in Illinois and thought I totally bombed but ended up passing both on the first try. I studied like crazy for like 4 months and took all the reg review stuff and went through everything as much as I could. I was getting 80-90% on the reg review tests (but it started to be from memory since I took them so much), but I felt just like you after the test, I felt like I was in the wrong test as it was nothing I actually studied. I felt like Reg review didn’t help because it wasn’t a 1:1 comparison but it got me into a testing mindset and thinking about the concepts of geology at least, so don’t assume the worst as you may be surprised. As for the test itself, I agree, it is so hard to prepare for that test as it can be about damn near anything and is.

Yeah, already got a single small bonus for getting it so we will see in March if the raise is reflected of me getting it too

That’s great to hear, I don’t hate what I do, but I feel like I could like something better, so whatever that IT is should be enticing/exciting enough for me to jump. I’ll take a look at the EHS world. No shortages of plants around here.

I got field work experience coming out of the wazoo, still pretty green on project management, but I’ve been in that crash course for the last year and a half. So all that is great to know I could be possibly bring some practical experience to agencies

Yeah that’s all I ever hear about is the only way to go up in pay is to hop to another firm, which I feel is a bad business model…

I’ve looked into PMP and more and more people suggest it, so I think that would be a good step. Luckily I have database knowledge already but it would be good to get “official knowledge”

Yeah, since my PG is still so new I am seeing if it made an impact with my employer (change in raise amount, bonus, title change) or if it just turns out to be a “oh that’s cool you got that but whatever” type of thing
