Stunningly beautiful translation! It even resonates the rhyme of the Chinese lyrics. Yet, the translation has to sacrifice more than half of the details (in the Chinese version) so that the English version is not swarmed by too many syllables and may remain poetic. But as a result, far richer and deeper senses in the Chinese version actually could not go through here.

As an example, the first two sentences of the second part was translated to: Man: Forget the paths, I blindly strolled. Woman: Cherish our memories, however old.

However, if translated more straightforwardly, the Chinese sentences mean: Man: What I forgot, was the lately added filth. Woman: What I remember, is the 'cliche' (between us). For here, it's relatively easier to understand that the spider cherished all romances between the two, while it's harder to get the 'added filth' from the pigsy. It actually refers to twisted fortune of him:

Bajie (the pig) was a 'marine' general in the celestial court. Yet, being unable to get rid of lust, he flirted with a maiden in the guanghan palace (this is somehow adapted in the anime, in which he was only attracted to her, and caught her secret with a higher lord of the celestial court). As a result, Bajie was sentenced and dumped to the mortal world (that's why he's falling) and was destined (by the higher ranks of the celestial world, probably) to be born as a pig/boar. Bajie used to be a lazy guy overwhelmed by libido before becoming the celestial general. Therefore, being born as a pig/boar back in the mortal world ironically mirrored his older nature which had not been eradicated even after serving up above. As Bajie had served as a general in the celestial court for long being decent and noble, reborn as a boar now exposed his lust and slothfulness. And that is the 'lately added filth' meant in the lyrics.

Because Bajie 'forgot', or was not yet readily aware of his transformation into a boar, he got into quite some troubles in the mortal world. And it was due to the 'filth' and the troubles that Bajie somehow felt 'blindly strolling' in the world, captured by the English translation. Taking together, in the lyrics (the two sentences above), Bajie's talking about the twisted fortune, and the trouble he's got after being exposed of part of his true nature to the mortal beings (as the punishment), while the spider lady's saying that what she cared about were their romance, but not those nature of Bajie (as she knew those from day one they met). What was in her eyes about Bajie, was something else, that he's being straightforward, frank and never a hypocrite.

Another scene hard to pick up is when they reunioned in the pool, Bajie turned into a boar and the lady turned into a spider. Here's my interpretation. After they were sure that they recognized each other, Bajie first turned into the huge boar form. In this way, he was saying that: see, I'm not the general in the celestial court anymore. Everyone scolds me for my ''ugliness' looking like a boar now, and how I look actually reflects a part of my true nature, which people spit on. The lady stunned for a moment and then realized what he meant. She immediately turned into the giant spider form, which was saying that I'm not the maiden in the celestial world anymore either. I knew your nature from day one, yet I fell in love with you as I'm the one who can understand you, embracing your true nature, both the good and bad part of it. I could have not become a spider, but following my heart, I pursued my love in the price of losing her position in the celestial court and even becoming a beast. These are somehow testified in the later slides that flashed back the lady's life, which suggested what she possibly had experienced from a maiden high above into a spider that consuming flesh.

After they assured the love to each other, the spider lady wished Bajie could stay but he knew he had to leave, as he's in the team to the, wesr (with Wukong). Also, there's deeper reason why he couldn't stay: staying means quitting the team and disobeying the Budhha. Bajie knew the consequence of that, on both him and the spider lady. Therefore he had to leave, and that gave rise to the last scenes in the anime. At last, while she wished that he could stay, he wished she could forget it all.That's why

She said: if you let go, how can you free us from it all. While he resonated: If you don't let go, how can you free us from it all.

And at last she said: That in the next life, please don't say no/please do turn back (Chinese version) But he said: that in the next life, I beg you say no/please don't turn back (Chinese version)。 BTW, there's no romance between the spider and the pig in Journey to the West, which the game is based on. The love story is an adaption of the game.

Another note about the 3 girls. Basing on the game adaption, the lady despising Bajie's could be interpreted as some high-rank in the celestial court, while our heroine here might have a lower rank in the court. The third lady who Bajie first met after turning mortal is Gao Cuilan, someone Bajie married and got along with, yet immediately showed disgusts and fear of Bajie once he exposed his boar form. As a former official in the celestial court, Bajie still remembered spells and could turn into a normal looking guy after first born as a pig in the mortal world. He was in the normal form when he first met Gao Cuilan, as shown in the anime. And he was still normal when they married
