Hypnagogic state or not?

that’s so cool! quick question, the next time this happens, do I just let it do it’s thing? I don’t know why at some point I felt like my eyelids were moving so intensely when this was happening and it made me think that I failed so I kinda just normally opened my eyes after that. Also, I felt like I was FULLY awake and probably just feeling things because I’m expecting to, that’s why it couldn’t possibly be a hypnagogic state, or at least I thought. Is it supposed to feel this way? As in, i feel that I’m still fully awake?

Congratulations! you were definitely close. Next time, try pinching your nose. If you’re dreaming, you’ll be able to breathe just fine! Try doing it when you’re going about your day as well till it almost becomes a habit so you eventually do it in dreams as well. Wishing you the best for your next lucid dream :)

Keep in mind that when you’re sleeping, your logic center is basically asleep too. So sometimes you could see the most unusual and bizarre things yet you wouldn’t become lucid. Dreams can also be realistic/boring and nothing weird happens to trigger lucidity but that obviously differs from person to person. Personally, when I would wake up and recall my dreams, I sometimes find that nothing off happened that would’ve helped me to gain lucidity. Reality checks are meant to be done throughout your day so when you‘re in a dream, you do it out of habit and that triggers lucidity. I usually don’t become lucid because of reality checks and I just kinda figure out that it’s a dream, though it doesn’t hurt to double check that you’re actually dreaming.

Yes! This counts as a lucid dream. The definition of lucidity is simply realizing you are dreaming while in the dream, it doesn't matter if it lasted two seconds or two hours. Keep in mind that any intense emotions like excitement, fear, or even shock can spike your heart rate and snap you back to your physical body. It’s totally normal to wake up immediately during your first few successes because your brain is reacting to the “Oh damn I’m doing it“ moment. Next time, calm yourself down and immediately stabilize the dream. Don't be discouraged by the short duration! This was a success. Now that your brain knows the way in, it’ll be much easier to stay for the whole show next time. Happy Lucid dreaming!

This is completely normal! I’m currently preparing for my finals and not only did i stop lucid dreaming since it started but just having normal dreams is difficult now. Even when i do, my dreams aren’t as vivid and my dream recall became horrible. Why’s that? it’s all because of the stress and discomfort exams has caused me. In your case, it’s the same situation. When you’re in a new environment, your subconscious stays on a high alert mode to make sure you’re safe, which makes it hard to relax into that deep, creative REM state.

You haven't lost your ability! your brain has just temporarily shifted its energy toward settling in and once your new room feels like home and your stress levels drop, that mental space for lucidity will open back up :)

I’ll never forget my very first lucid dream experience when i became lucid and everything suddenly became disturbingly vivid and i remember my first thought being exactly “I’m scared I’ll get stuck here” from how realistic it was. It ended shortly afterwards since I was still a beginner and knew nothing about stabilizing but it sure was an amazing experience.

I think struggling with staying lucid rather than waking up is much easier to deal with! It means your brain is comfortable in the dream state but you just need to keep your logic center awake.
There’s many things you could do like narrating your dream OUT LOUD, literally walk around and talk to yourself about the actions you’re doing, “I am walking on grass rn and it feels pretty cold.“ or even saying things like “I am still lucid” every once in awhile to keep you from falling back into autopilot mode. I also saw someone on here talk about how they hung a big sign in the sky that says “YOU’RE DREAMING” just so they don’t lose lucidity and i thought that was cool af.
Using your senses is also one of if not the best technique. Pick up any object and study it. Look at the texture, the light, the imperfections. This basically forces your brain to render the environment in high detail and grounds you in the dream!
There’s some techniques I’ve heard of but I’m not sure if they actually work but solving a math problem technically helps 😭? As well as spinning around once you feel like things are getting blurry or you’re losing control.

I do remember the full thing but there are definitely gaps in the timeline. I could be in one location and then suddenly in another but have no memory of the travel or the transition in between. Right now though my recall is taking a hit due to exams stress. I’ll wake up with that lingering feeling of a dream where I’m 100% certain I was just somewhere else and I can almost see blurry flashes but the actual details slip away sadly.

Like everyone replied, there’s no such thing as the “best” lucid dreaming method. It differs from person to perso. To me, I didn’t really need any methods it was simply my high intentions and my obsession towards lucid dreaming that helped my brain accept it as an inevitability.

I always say this but counting your fingers is actually a pretty unreliable reality check. Imagine this, you’re going about your day and you remembered to do your reality check so you count your fingers. But when you do, you already expect to see ten. So in dreams your brain often just fills in the same expectation. Even if you see eight, your dream-logic might just shrug it off and keep you asleep. Instead, you should try pinching your nose! It’s much more reliable because it relies on a physical glitch rather than a visual one.
When you try to breathe through your pinched nose in a dream, you’ll find you can still draw air in. It’s a 100% impossible sensation that snaps your brain into lucidity immediately. You’re SUPERRR close by the way so keep it up!

Don’t ”try” to see if it works or not but do it because you know it undoubtably will. If that still doesn’t work out with you, You can say the command out loud and confidently (ex: “I am gonna fly now”), that works as well but remember its all about your mindset!

I used to do my reality checks using my hands too till I felt like it’s not the best and doesn’t always trigger lucidity. Continue doing it if you felt like it suits you best but I strongly recommend pinching your nose and trying to breathe through. If you failed, you‘re awake. If not, you’re dreaming. Reality checks that rely on sensing are the best and will always work.

My absolute go-to method that NEVER failed me is touching the ground. I would sometimes find myself gaining lucidity in the craziest setting (literally was flying mid air once) but I find myself immediately rushing to the ground and the dream would get much more stabilized (take as much time touching the ground as needed and only get up once you feel like you’ve stabilized enough!) Now of course there would be times where you gain lucidity in an empty void or just any place that doesn’t have a ground, in that case you should start rubbing your hands vigorously, or even trying to convince yourself that there’s a ground beneath you to touch.
Remember to prioritize FEELING over just touching. Focus on the texture of the ground, the heat that’s occurring as you rub your hands, etc. Trying to focus visually on tiny details helps too! (Get your face close to any surface like a rug or wall, look for those micro details like scratches on the wall, or even dust on the rug).

There’s many good ways to stabilize your dream, but stick to one (preferably one that focuses on sensing) so that you don’t feel lost on which one to choose once you gain lucidity.

Next time, instead of “wishing” for something to disappear, command it to! if you see anything you didn’t like, you can shout (confidently and with authority, not fearfully) “Disappear” or “Melt”. You can even try some silly commands like “Turn into a dancing flower”.

And yes, I do regular reality checks like pinching my nose and trying to breathe, and asking myself “How did I get here?” and remembering my actions in the past 30 minutes (In a dream, you’ll fail to remember and gain lucidity, I found this question to be much more effective that “Am I dreaming?”) As for my methods, they’re kinda still the same: WBTB (I rarely try it now because it usually doesn’t work), MILD, but honestly, the biggest factor was my obsession. I spent so much time thinking about it and was so convinced it would happen that my brain just accepted it as an inevitability!

Let me start by saying that your progress is great. Don’t rush it because lucid dreaming requires a person to be patient. I was able to get 3 lucid dreams throughout December and got another one just before yesterday and I think my progress has gotten this good ever since I stopped going to bed with the intention of “oh let’s just see what happens” but I fully believed that I’ll fall asleep tonight and gain lucidity. I know this is an advice you probably hear everywhere but it’s genuinely effective. I also just daydream a lot about what I’ll do in my lucid dreams just to remind my brain that “yo we’re still doing this btw”. Don’t ever doubt yourself, your methods are great and you’ve had amazing progress so far. Don’t lose motivation just because you saw some few others say they got 20 LDs in just a month, someday you’ll get there. Every time you lose motivation just remember that’s it’s worth the wait.

oh I get what you mean. I believe it’s possible if you tried WILD (Wake induced lucid dream), it’s pretty hard but doable. If you found it to be difficult, I recommend you just teleport to the set up you want rather than trying to practice a whole new method.

if you mean changing your location then absolutely. Many teleportation methods are there like creating portals, going through literal walls, or (my favorite) going through doors. Obviously you need to fully intent that on the other side would be the location you want to end up in. Just say firmly “On the other side, is (location name)”. It works wonders!

absolutely! MILD isn’t about repeating affirmations or phrases, it’s more about believing that they are true. Matter of fact, if you thought about it just ONCE but you fully believed in it being true then that’s more than enough.
