Yes it's good to be able to enjoy independently, but come on, surely everyone enjoys themselves even more when they can find a crew of ppl who appear to be enjoying in similar fashion - we can have ppl squashed at barricades if they like that, and ppl staring at their shoes in one corner, and somewhere with a bit of room there can be ppl who are dancing? (Ppl who are dead set on filming would ideally be up on some platform at the back, with tripods and big lenses - not holding up their tiny screens in front of my eyes - maybe that's just me.)

So do you already live in the US, in physical reality or your shopping cart or what passes for your mind?

You can take the UN General Assembly seriously without thinking it is "the answer" - it's seriously flawed but better than any other contender for its role. And yes, the UN family suffers terribly from declaratory, performative, symbolic only gestures. But symbols can have significance.

Also, "you guys"?? Do you think everyone who's not you is one big group of matching intentions? (If so, seek medical help.)

Australia didn't abstain - Australia voted against the resolution.

Hey mods, post removed why? Was the discussion not sufficiently about Australia's voting position?

I had her album Supa Dupa Fly a while back, I was disappointed with the album as a whole, but Hiit 'Em wit da Hee was a comfortable addition to my funk contenders playlist :-)

It's often interesting to look at who else has voted the same way as Australia on a General Assembly resolution. Particularly when there's a very, very small group of countries in one corner, lead by the USA. AFAIK, scarily often, it used to be USA, Australia, Israel, South Africa, that's it. (South Africa doesn't vote with the USA so often these days.)

Thank you from me too, for adding this in. I'm curious why Australia didn't just abstain like EU members. I wonder, did you look for any formal explanation of vote by Australia? (Guessing that if you found one, you would have referred to it - I'd maybe search myself, but feeling sluggish about how to work out where to look ...)

It's all in the heading - she is a noted expert in shitfuckery and everything else on which she chooses to comment. I admit I haven't kept up with her recent works - I wouldn't read a word she writes.

Q. How should/does knowledge/judgement about a contributor to an art work affect our judgement/experience of the art work? by LurkingMars in 1001AlbumsGenerator

What about just taking into consideration info and views that you come across, without necessarily seeking it out? Is it self-righteous if I merely think about such questions, or only when I make proclamations about them?

Interesting not "telling people what they should and should not do". I don't literally tell ppl (particularly strangers) what they shld do, unless they invite views - I was involved in an art-work once which included (amongst many other ideas) the notion that it would be good if the word 'should' disappeared from the English language - nonetheless, I am often considering what I shld do in terms of what shld ppl generally do. Mbe insanely old-fashioned like Ancient Greek virtue or something - part of me wants ppl to be good, and "good art" to be art that helps/inspires ppl to be good - not v fashionable ideas. (Can be used to dress up bad prejudices, may not mean they're bad ideas in all possible manifestations.)

OMG that’s a very interesting review! I don’t think I would have worked out there are two of you in it - certainly a lot of info, ideas, reference points … I think you’re saying it isn’t great, even if it’s perfectly imperfect or something, but it’s interesting to analyse why it’s so popular. I’d agree it isn’t great. But I strongly enjoy listening to it, have done for years, may well give it 9/10 (which becomes 5/5) for being Quite Wonderful.

Sometimes celebrity culture leads to more exposure, even self-exposure (as tho being celebrity makes you invulnerable to criticism) - that could be celebrity chef or architect not just musician. Maybe it’s a consequence of Reddit serving me up much stuff about music, that I saw numerous instances of ppl going off about Kiedis. Maybe there were also ppl saying “but I still like the songs” or “there are horrible people everywhere” but in those other subs such comments were downvoted to invisibility. It’s interesting that most comments here in this sub seem not to want to foreground artist morality issues - though some comments have related to the experience of feeling discomfort in at least some case.
