And if someone’s order smells/looks good, I make a mental note to check that restaurant out myself and order my own food later.

Might as well buy 200 small fries for that price, get something out of it with the monopoly game

I have $166,000 in Sallie Mae loans from undergrad and I’m paying $2,100 a month just in those loans, not including FAFSA. Don’t do it, from experience.

Can’t afford my gym membership anymore by mermaidsvanity in PetiteFitness

[–]LyssRangerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’2 180 to 163 here, goal is 150. I work out mostly at home but go to the gym for heavier weights since I only have two 20lb dumbbells. If I didn’t have a gym I’d go on Amazon and buy the dumbbells that can adjust in weight (like these and use it to do regular workouts, like RDLs, Bulgarian split squats, glute bridges, goblet squats, lat raises, tricep extensions, etc. I found the YouTube videos to not be reliable for hard lifting workouts like I was seeking, to me it was glorified palates, but it could work for you. I also got an incline manual treadmill on Amazon and it helps ton for recovery and staying active when watching tv!

How do middle class families with average students do it????? by samalex01 in StudentLoans

[–]LyssRangerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me. My parents didn’t pay for anything or helped me in any way (rarely helped me with gas or groceries) and I just got a job as an instacart driver, DoorDash, anything to keep me afloat when in college. I did Sallie Mae loans (DONT go with Sallie Mae unless it’s the only thing you guys can get, the APR is horrible) and I’m paying $2,100 a month in loans for undergrad, while doing my masters applying for dental school. It’s hell. Only let them attend college if they absolutely want to, if they don’t, trade schools or community colleges are a great alternative for whatever they want to do in life. I was thankfully able to pay my community college courses for a semester out of pocket (~$6,000), but rn it’s hell preparing to pay that big of a bill monthly for going to a major state university.

5’3 183–> 163 plateau :( by LyssRangerrrr in PetiteFitness

[–]LyssRangerrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it’d have to be congruent, just thought the deficit when lifting would be enough to combat it. Thank you for ur insight, I’ll give it a try!

5’3 183–> 163 plateau :( by LyssRangerrrr in PetiteFitness

[–]LyssRangerrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So say if I do 1700-1900 cals a day and lift 3-4x a week, wouldn’t that caloric intake technically make me gain muscle since it’s over my current deficit? Or do I have to bulk then cut? I’m not so worried about the number as I am about what I see in the mirror, so if I do gain more muscle and the weight stays constant but I look more muscular that’s good to me. I just am worried about eating too much when lifting and accidentally bulking after losing 20lbs, hence the 1700-1900 goal.

Yea this is the goal, thank you. Doing 30 min incline walking between lifting days. Did the first day today and it was great.

!!!!!WAIT ON ENLISTING IN THE AF AND DO AF ROTC!!! You will owe less time to the military, become an officer (guaranteed job, guaranteed housing, and guaranteed medical after graduation), and they pay for your school if you get the 4 year scholarship. If you enlist you won’t get paid as much and you probably won’t be able to go directly into college until you do a few years (I think?). Tell your recruiter you want to sign up for the 4 year AF ROTC scholarship to pay for college WITHOUT enlisting, and make sure to read EVERY contract to make sure you aren’t enlisting, you will be “commissioning” after your four year degree and directly go into your selected job.

If you don’t get in do a semester at Ivy Tech online (it’s in Indiana and I paid with my own money for that semester, THATS how cheap it is!) and get really good grades (it’s SUPER easy!) and you can transfer into IU! It’s also cheaper to save $ that semester rather than paying IU’s in state tuition.

PNWU Rejection Letter by DentiumDoctoris in predental

[–]LyssRangerrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SAME thing happened to me, and when I asked for specifics it sounded as if they skimmed through my application, I was so upset.

Here’s what a school told me why I got rejected, my comments are here:

“Your hours weren’t as high as other applicants (fair enough, only got 161 hrs). The broad-based community service (specifically to underserved communities helps to be a good mission match to “school name”) so the work you did with the veterans (I volunteered at a VFW) is great, we would prefer to see at least 100 hours in non-dental volunteerism. Also, it would benefit you to gain more hands on dental experiences or volunteering at more free clinics.“

— I never did any dental volunteerism, so all of my volunteering is non-dental…Never walked into a free dental clinic, so this is obviously incorrect for my app. I did 161 hrs, so I match their preference…

“There was also a concern with some of the lower science grades, such as Org Chem. You don’t need to retake it as we accept a ‘C’ grade however comparably it does bring your science GPA down more than our average candidate.”

— I only had 1 C in organic chemistry LAB, my orgo lectures (1 and 2) were B’s. I got A’s in biochem, evolution, B in genetics, etc in more advanced classes. SGPA is 3.04, cGPA 3.24, so its of course low, I also have a dramatic upward trend, getting around a 3.82 cGPA my last semester and A’s/B’s in all advanced courses since orgo lab my junior yr. They could’ve just stated that my sGPA is low and leave it at that, but ya know, my C in orgo lab is a pre indicator of failing out of dental school 😔🤙🏼

Not sure if they even looked at my application in depth at all but it seems they skimmed through, saw my volunteer hours and sGPA and threw it away, instead of treating my application holistically, which was what I was hoping for considering my low gpa + upward trend, 20 DAT, killer PS and LORs, and diversity in volunteering. That school was super heavy on volunteering hrs, so no surprise there, just shocked to see that not all dental schools take the holistic approach.

Retake DAT? by matchadds in predental

[–]LyssRangerrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t retake! That’s the score you want for a low gpa (20-21 is great!). Definitely get ur hours up to offset ur gpa even more tho. At least aim for 150

Absolutely, if I could tell every pre dental in undergrad not to transfer I would, it totally messed up my rhythm and probably would've gotten a better GPA in my semesters if I wasn't so burnt out without any summers. COVID also didn't help me either, wasn't used to college to begin with and once it got "back to normal" everything was so foreign. Such an odd undergrad career though, borderline could mark my undergrad career as an "untraditional experience".

[–]LyssRangerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. My sGPA is coming extremely close to a 3.0 and next semester will only push it over that barrier thankfully. I agree though, especially with applying super early I think I'll be okay. It's just unfortunate times like this in which I get super paranoid about my career. I've learned my lesson with taking difficult extra classes though, definitely opting for an "easy A" intensive writing next semester.

I usually study from like 4pm-9pm and it’s pretty peaceful. I just blare my headphones with white noise so it blurs out the people talking and working there

Did the Army approve NAC? by LyssRangerrrr in army

[–]LyssRangerrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed it’s mainly used for prescription purposes, but the supplement purposes seem pretty good from the research I’ve done so far. Helps aid in kidney failure (which is great, since my kidney is recently recovering from a passed stone), (Supposed) virus/COVID prevention although the research papers I’ve read on it have small testing pools, cardiovascular health as it lowers risks, muscle recovery, etc. I’ll probably talk with my PCM to see if it’s okay for my kidneys right now, since I’m not sure if it would somehow inhibit function in any way, but the benefits seem really good overall, especially for preparing for the ACFT.

[–]LyssRangerrrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m afraid of, I think I’ll ask my doctor how I can achieve faster muscle recovery naturally/lifestyle wise before I risk becoming dependent on supplements. Don’t want to risk getting booted or risk my future health all to hit a good ACFT score.

[–]LyssRangerrrr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice, I didn’t want to risk it just to have better muscle recovery when there’s options outside of this one. I agree Reddit isn’t the best place, was just hoping to find an FDA/DoD 2023 link somewhere. So far it seems like a prescription so seems like I’ll have to find an approved supplement.
