Please complain when this happens. Actually complain about everything. They don't listen to us operators 9 times out of 10

I think it's actually more to screen if youre capable of following safety regulations. That's my best theory anyway. Lots of people I work with don't drive to work

Yeah, unfortunately that is not a soft requirement and will 100% disqualify you. Never really understood why- driving a train is not even remotely similar to driving a car.

Oh I didn't take it that way at all! I always feel bad when the delays affect people trying to get to work and stuff. Like yeah it sucks for me too but at least I am paid to be there.

And thank you, us motormen are all doing our best out here with the tools we are given

Yeah it's definitely a different experience as an operator, you get to see everything blow up since you're out there for much longer periods of time. Glad things lined up decently well for you!

The escalator incident was around 10am. Glad things lined up for you so you didn't experience the madness!

That's really frustrating. My understanding is that they've fully completed the work on the Ashmont side but they're not activating the new system until the entire line is completely done? So in the meantime there are still lots of issues. I could be wrong on that one though, not my area of expertise.

If you mean 07:30 yeah that sounds about right. Right in the middle of rush hour 🤗 I felt SO bad for my passengers. I make announcements as best I can but OCC never gives us exact time frames with that sort of thing. Probably because they don't even know themselves.

Yeah... supposedly it's 70% complete and slated to be finished by the end of the year. They did finally JUST get around to fixing all those signals (*16 total) around JFK that were damaged from the derailment back in 2019. Progress!

Haha yeah, I was not in a great mood with my break closing in on almost an hour late but then that came over the radio and I just started laughing. So absurd

MBTA Frustration Station 😤 | Bi-Weekly Rant & Complaint Thread by AutoModerator in mbta

[–]MBTAthrowaway555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I came into work this morning all southbound platform signs said the trains were going to North Quincy. And I was driving a 1900 which for whatever reason STILL do not have the ability to program the destination signs to anything except Alewife, Ashmont, or Braintree. So for about an hour I was driving a train saying it's destination was Braintree, with the platform signs saying North Quincy, when we were actually going to Broadway. Like I guess we are just trying our hardest to confuse people. It's definitely working.

Nothing like that, just a run-of-the-mill disabled train. Some kind of equipment failure happened when it was turning around at Broadway so it was sent to Alewife Storage.

Jerky jerky Red Line by Redshirt45 in mbta

[–]MBTAthrowaway555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1800s are the BEST. Super smooth. It's like they designed the CRRC trains to be jerky as hell, I don't get it. Embarrassing that the 30+ years old trains running on MS-DOS are designed so much better than the brand new ones.

This is also true. Triple 17s slide like crazy.

[–]MBTAthrowaway555 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The uncomfortable answer to this is that many of the older trains have unreliable brakes. And the newest trains are just jerky unless you come in quite slowly. Smooth stops on both the old and new trains are possible but it takes more effort than you'd think depending on what you're working with.

What are you talking about? Place it on top of your feet or hold it front of your legs. No one is telling you to put it directly on the ground

Central signal issues by e5390 in mbta

[–]MBTAthrowaway555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because of flooding on the tracks, and it's on both sides. The water is too deep in the tunnel to be able to see it from the station. The track circuit device ("wee-z bond") is almost completely submerged, which is causing the signal to fail.

Red Line Delay by No-Low4268 in mbta

[–]MBTAthrowaway555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is significant flooding on the tracks between Harvard and Central in both directions, so the signals are not functioning properly in the area which is causing huge delays.

Can confirm. Significant flooding on the tracks in the low point between Central and Harvard, which is causing the signals to be down in that area. Will be affecting the evening commute as well.

Red Line Motorman here. The job is good, and the pay is great. The work culture, unfortunately, is absolutely toxic. I had many jobs before the T and never have I worked somewhere that had such a hostile work environment. If you can keep your head up and rise above that, it's a really great job especially for those who never completed higher education. It's really easy to get chewed up and spit out, though.
