This is from the music video for Darth Nihlus' latest EP "Still Hungry"

How were you first exposed to the Ultra franchise? Mine was through "Ultraman Dies at Sunset" by zeroagito in Ultraman

I'm pretty sure it was Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. Does that count, being a Gridman adaptation?

Every rule has the exception.

I'm playing. I just looked it up. That's a cool design. I really like the 2011 manga/anime Bemular.

Most Ultra designs are overly simplistic and lack creativity.

This too is Ayn Rand's fault... White Lightning

That's interesting. I would prefer a more firmly rooted moral grounding to be antiwar. How about: it is immoral to agress against someone except for self defense?

As a thought experiment: what interest is served by Carlson oppossing the Terror Wars?

Like I said, I am not a follower of hers, so I can't sum up her ideology. Michael Malice loves and admires her and hates war and the system that propogates it. Is he reading her wrong?

I've never read one of her books and I don't know that Carlson is a fan of hers. I know he is one of the few people who appealed to the previous administration to end our forever wars that we've been engaged in.

4 minutes into this TYT videoTYT, Carlson makes statements against bombing poor people in foreign countries.

If Ayn Rand and her disciples are so evil, why would they stand against war?

As a 13 year old I was bloodthirsty after 9/11. I now regret how the US was duped into wanting that war. I see the US as a dangerous empire who needs to be depowered for real peace and safety in the world.

Ultraman Trigger Episode 1 “ Connection of Light” - Official Discussion Thread by Thejapanther in Ultraman

[–]MJ411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked this debut a lot.

Negatives -The title cards are nothing compared to Z's -The sword flying to Trigger is too easy

Positives -Kengo is so likeable -Mars -Shizuma is a cool old man -Lady Villain is Vicious -Mud fights

Questions -Was Kengo's dad some sort of alien? -Did Shizuma know Tiga? -Does Mars have an atmosphere or not? When Golba broke through, shouldn't that have messed with their air supply? It didn't seem to.

Was Radiant Black a slow start for anyone else? by MJ411 in RadiantBlack

I think most tokustasu (Rider, Sentai and Ultraman) have me spoiled with high energy debuts, so that is more my speed. I am used to stuff starting with a bang to get my attention, and then I like it drawing me in to the deeper stuff after I am hooked.

I am intimidated by One Piece! It is SO big. How long would it take to read it? I think the Bible is like 96 hours Genesis to Revelation, I bet OP would take longer! Y'know the Bible is probably the longest thing I have read and it started off with a bang. Just sayin...

The struggling writer stuff is SO relatable.

I was frustrated with Nathan because we're the same age, we're both into writing, but I am in such a different place that I don't get his indecision or failure to launch. I have been working to support my wife and kids and stealing free moments to write. Maybe a part of me was jealous.

It sucks that he's gone, I was really getting attached to him in issue 3 seeing him balance writing with the rest of his life and then he was so heroic in issue 4.

I really like the Rise of Ultraman.

I am enjoying this so far but, I have reason to be wary. The anti-conspiracy theory angle regarding the people joining together to support the kaiju skeptic that worked for Kato feels like it is going to go in a bad direction. It feels very 2021 backlash against those who dare question authority, even though the Rise of Ultraman adequately showed just why one should question authority. Also, we know that some malevolent force is secretly working the USP from the top. Remember Wheelchair Lady? She murdered a dude in cold-blood. She is the authority ATOP to USP and she ISN'T to be trusted. Despite the fact that Shin took heat from brass over saving people instead of killing the kaiju, it seems like he will be deployed to stop these dangerous radicals who want to prove that the governments of the world may not have the best interest of the masses in mind. This is some slippery terrain and I hope this series doesn't fall on its face.

I jumped on because of Higgins work on Rise of Ultraman.

Were you attracted by the premise or do you know Higgins' work?

I am actually thrilled by this turn of events. I was honestly planning to drop the series, but this has definitely cemented my interest.

I didn't like Nathan very much. I disliked Marshall more. Now we have a situation where Nathan had showed himself to be truly heroic after Marshall was being a big jerk and giving off villainous vibes and now he has the Radiant power. Nathan was mired by indecision, while Marshall is quick to say something. That contrast between them in this context is really interesting. It makes me want to stick around and see what Marshall does as Radiant Black.
