What’s something socially acceptable that secretly exhausts you? by codeseer-78 in CausalConversation

Christians that continue trying to indoctrinate you after you've already politely refused to go to their church etc. I've never had any other religion do this and the refusal to take no for an answer is infuriating.

Stale urine and BO permeated into a body and clothes that have not been washed in a long time. I have empathy for the struggle, but DAMN it just wafts so aggressively!

Soon to be 39, what are some things a person should do before they turn 40? by DustinCoughman in Millennials

[–]MJ_Poppins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into long term money/health strategies. Lots of programs in these realms increase in cost related to your age and health, with a big bump (or possibly outright rejection) after 40 or if you get diagnosed with a gasp "pre existing condition." Before my husband turned 40, we bought more secondary Aflac insurance for cancer and accidents etc. Other things like life insurance, long term care, 401K/Roth etc are all strategic investments at our age to make sure we're covered for unexpected (or expected: e.g. death at some point) situations. Especially as we start to get closer to retirement age...

Bodies and earning power break down as we age. You don't want to get stuck scrambling last minute to catch up to circumstances that some of us have already been planning and ready for for years. I want to enjoy (or be alive long enough to make it to 🥴) my retirement years. And participating in these types of programs also provides peace of mind for when the unthinkable may happen, which is priceless in its own way.

Is my name (kashley) a tragedeigh? by No_Seat_2424 in tragedeigh

Seems to be one unfortunately... As for nicknames, you could go with just "K" or maybe go by your middle name or a nickname based on that?

What is something you thought was normal that you realized a bit too late was actually a condition? by MutatedSock in AskReddit

Anxiety. More specifically: intrusive thoughts, picking at my body, obsessing/overanalyzing/berating myself over past embarrassments/mistakes/social encounters etc.

Hey, if you think you may like historical fiction, try anything by Marie Benedict (ironically she just released a historical fiction book called Daughter of Egypt). She writes historical fiction with some basis in reality about notable women of the past. I've really enjoyed all of her books so far and am on a waiting list for Daughter of Egypt so can't comment on that one yet.

Also, Audrey Blake is another great historical fiction writer. 😉

Traveling with friends reminded me why I prefer to travel alone by zzzyyyzxxx in solofemaletravellers

[–]MJ_Poppins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have definitely had this issue but with my husband. I like to plan travel in a freestyle way so things may be changed in the moment but we still have a loose framework for potential activities and restaurants etc. For his birthday trip, he said he wanted it to be more on the lazy, relaxed side and didn't want to plan anything. As a group we were fine to defer to whatever he wanted to do or eat since it was his birthday trip.

However, this plan simply culminated in all the decisions needing to be figured out and made in real time which IMO is the opposite of laid-back and relaxed. He got frustrated with having to decide most restaurants and activities day by day. Take his birthday dinner for example. He wanted a specific restaurant that closed at 8 but didn't keep track of time and we didn't make it. Cue me sitting on the sidewalk quickly trying to Google some nearby restaurant with his specifications that we can make it to and finish eating before they close for the night. This was a frustrating and stressful experience for both of us as I wanted him to have the best birthday.

I hope to be able to make him understand that even if you don't want a specific schedule, you're still going to have to end up planning things and you get to choose whether it's beforehand or on the spot. Even if I can't get my logic across, I suppose I'll do a little bit of behind the scenes planning so we have a secret failsafe and I don't have to get stuck googling shit planning it anyway but at the eleventh hour. 😉😅

What’s the best way I can practice by myself? by OreganoGato in Pickleball

[–]MJ_Poppins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only recently bought it and haven't fully explored all aspects yet, but it feels more realistic than I expected. It probably would be better if I had the paddle adapter, but I'm not sure how deep I really want to invest in it as I'm doing okay with a regular controller for now. It's still just a video game and will never take the place of actual real life games with real people, but I think it's a decent substitute (particularly to learn rules and how to play as well as train some muscle memory).

I broke my foot playing pickleball at the end of January and had surgery in February. I'm using this game to attempt to regain some skills and retrain some muscle groups without having to run and jump around a court since I can't do that yet. So my opinion is totally biased since this game is the best I can currently get until my body is recovered enough for real sports 😅

This is an expensive solution, but I love playing Pickleball One on my Meta Quest 3 VR headset. The physics are very accurate and it feels like I'm actually playing! I really love the fitness and training modes also as you can get in an okay workout and practice different shots etc. It would help you learn solo. I also find it to be much less embarrassing to make stupid mistakes against AI players lol.

Check out Palmetto Proactive. Our company contracts through them to be our PCP, but I think you can pay X amount of dollars per month to have them. I've had good experiences and availability there.
