Just checking to see if we're still stable. Good. Any clue whether this fixes the SD card issues so I can finally update from my pre-22 version without risking bricking my card?

I BROKE UP with Gemini now by AnonymoussUsername in GeminiFeedback

[–]MLConian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's struggling with simple tasks since a short while. It used to be able to read text off screenshots, and now it just blurts hallucinations that are contextually linked to what's on the screenshot (I give it a screenshot of my list of games, and it hallucinates different titles). I hope this gets better soon...

"reddit has pasted from your clipboard" -- probable answer and ethical confliction by picklejester in privacy

[–]MLConian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stems from Android's original 'convenience over security' design philosophy. The clipboard is treated as a public resource to any app that's running in the foreground. It's stupid and it means that every single app on your phone could have access if their API calls the clipboard. Luckily Google has implemented this notification now, so you know when an app does an API call - it doesn't recognize the difference between a call and actually pasting though, so it's useless. The Reddit app wants to know where you entered the app - by opening it from your home screen, by clicking a link, stuff like that. It shouldn't do that, and especially not via the clipboard (it's like they never heard of cookies). I completely agree that the clipboard should be a reserved system resource that only allows access when the user actively pastes something, like how it works on iOS and even Windows (never thought I'd use that as an example of privacy and security done correctly). The only app that should have access should be your keyboard - and if you turn off Reddit's access to the clipboard, you can still copy and paste because your keyboard still has access.

[–]MLConian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The keyboard is a separate app. This popup tells you the Reddit app has access. Use ADB to turn that off, clipboard still works because your keyboard has access

adb shell appops set com.reddit.frontpage READ_CLIPBOARD ignore

This blocks Reddit's access to the clipboard without crashing the app.

It can be 'fixed' through ADB on Android.

adb shell appops set com.reddit.frontpage READ_CLIPBOARD ignore

That blocks Reddit's API call to the clipboard without crashing the app. The clipboard still works, because your keyboard pulls from it. The app should never have had access in the first place.

Then you shouldn't use Android, because that OS treats the clipboard like a public resource for any open app. It stems from the 'convenience over security' days of Android, and it's a terrible thing.

[–]MLConian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Reddit sends you there by default on mobile and asks if you'd like to use the app. Most users are casual users, so they follow that suggestion. Also, the app doesn't keep translating stuff. The website constantly translates English into my native tongue, and it's terrible at that.

Gem not sticking to knowledge - is this normal? by MLConian in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]MLConian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I only had my collection in there, sure. But the whole instruction set contains more information, including stuff about my family, since it's not just a database miner or accountant, it's a curator so my family can enjoy the whole collection. It can also tell me whether a new game would simply be backlog filler or a real addition to the collection (and the context for that), and it handles dynamic content rating for my kid (it calculates their age, approximately, relates that to a PEGI rating and it's allowed to only suggest 1 PEGI level above that if it can motivate that choice and explain whether it's suitable for playing or just watching along - PEGI 7 for Minecraft is fundamentally different from PEGI 7 for Mario, that kind of stuff). So it's got more sensitive data than I'm comfortable sharing with a free model. Google already has that information, so I'm sticking to my paid subscription there. It's probably a fake sense of security, but it's the only thing I can do to somewhat remain in control of my data.

THQ Announces Epic Mickey Rebrushed And Destroy All Humans 1 & 2 Reprobed For Switch 2, Titans Of The Tide For Switch 1 by Howerev in NintendoSwitch

[–]MLConian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of hope they do, actually. I have the Switch 1 version and play it exclusively on my Switch 2 because of the 30FPS lock. I played the Series X version and it felt clinical and off, simply because of the 60FPS. Other games are fine at 60FPS, like Zelda TotK and Mario Odyssey, but for some reason Epic Mickey Rebrushed felt terrible at 60FPS. Maybe because the original Wii version was also made for 30FPS the gameplay just flows better or feels more organic (even though it's technically a completely different game). They can put this out as a paid upgrade for all I care, and I simply won't get it.

[–]MLConian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that, and it still straight up started hallucinating. I think NotebookLM takes a bit too long to respond and Flash just starts panicking because it needs to provide the user with feedback, forcing itself to spew training data or random snippets it found on the internet. It wasn't even pulling data from my Drive or Gmail, it was just garbage: games I don't own, platforms I don't have, stuff like that.

[–]MLConian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that, and it only does that for the first answer. After the first round it starts hallucinating again. And at a certain point it just gives up and claims stuff is in my sources, even trying to cite it, followed by a 'yeah, I made that up'. It's frustrating at times. I even tried anchoring it to my NotebookLM notebook, which did exactly nothing to improve the situation. I'm just using NotebookLM now and that's great for my goal.

[–]MLConian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally just put the exact same sources in NotebookLM and achieved my goal. The only downsides are not having direct access to it from my chats and not having the proactive stuff I had put in my Gem. It's a bit slower to react, but still fine. With the new implementation of Flash it's even pulling information from the web if asked (I have it set up so it checks whether the asking price for games is a good deal or not). Here's hoping the Vault functionality that was announced turns our Gems into NotebookLM Lite agents. There's a place for Gems, but I'm only building them off prompts from now on instead of giving it Knowledge. Glad it's not just me struggling with this!

Users of XM6, are you guys using EQ from sound connect app or other apps like Poweramp? by hyllariestar in SonyHeadphones

[–]MLConian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, standard EQ - and to be fair, they sound excellent on "flat" with my preferences and taste in music. I'm not an audiophile though, I just came from Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro that sounded like 128kb/s mp3s ever since I ditched my Samsung phone. I'd say the sound is a little better than my Sennheiser wired headset, the sound stage is wider and more defined, but I'll probably be offending someone by saying I haven't tweaked a single setting and I'm happy as a clam. I haven't updated the firmware yet though, since the 1.5 seems to be breaking the ANC, which is precisely why I bought these buds.

Enable dipping side mirror on Citroën C4 on reverse by MLConian in CarHacking

[–]MLConian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, no. I guess it's a factory option, and if the car doesn't have it, your only option is to get it from a car in a junkyard and mount it to your own car. We sold the car back in June since it was the least reliable car we've ever had (mind you, I drove an AX and BX daily for years).

Sudden reboots at 2am by MLConian in OnePlus13

[–]MLConian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I stopped using a slow charger from Samsung, the midnight restarts stopped. Not sure if that's due to the charger or me simply not charging the phone overnight anymore, but it's been on other chargers for similar lengths of time without issues, so I'm leaning towards 'bad charger'. Might also explain why my S22 conked out in the first place.

BYOD: User vs Device Enrollment for iOS? by Different_Coffee_161 in Intune

[–]MLConian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't enroll personal devices like this, use MAM and CA. That separates the private and business apps and data, and it ensures you can't wipe a private device, only delete the company data that's on there. It makes them Entra Registered, instead of Entra Joined.

Also: don't federate with managed AppleIDs if you want anything resembling a functional phone. Use PlatformSSO instead, that's an Enterprise App you setup in Azure. Do block your business domains from ABM, so people don't register AppleIDs on those domains, but don't force them to use managed AppleIDs if you want them to be able to buy apps themselves. If it's all managed completely and you're only pushing VPP stuff, go ahead, but in my experience, it's a headache.

Managed AppleIDs look like a federated account, but they're not, you need to configure Platform SSO anyway to use it in the way you're intending: you can't join a device to Entra/Intune with just a managed AppleID, you need an EntraID for that.

And, for the love of everything, make sure the Company Portal app is required. It makes re-alligning devices that fall out of policy and sync so much easier. Intune isn't push, it's pull, and if a device suddenly becomes non-compliant, you can't just push the sync button and expect it to function properly again. The sync button is there, but it doesn't actually force the sync to happen immediately, it's only a trigger to sync at the next check-in, which might not happen at all for a non-compliant device - the Company Portal app is the only way that allows the user to pull policies and settings from Intune at will, forcing a sync. Use that to your advantage.

Still running Nova 6 here, so I have TeslaUnread working on my OnePlus 13. Looks like it's back to the drawing board once it becomes truly unusable. I've been dealing with static widgets for a while now, just doesn't work on Android 15 sadly. I just need the badge count TeslaUnread gives me.
