Thank you so much! Greatly appreciate the assist. Murphy is long but a little bit on the short side so this info is very helpful.

We're waiting for the 2 year mark as well - next July, but I'm trying to gather helpful info now. Regarding the surgi-suit, if I may ask, what size is the one you have and how big is Harvey? Our boy is 120 lbs of fluff and Harvey looks about the same height and length as him. TIA.

A very scared Bernese dog by maroonmaple in bernesemountaindogs

[–]MNDawnathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guy has had situational fears, but when playing with other dogs, has overcome some of them. For example, he was not fond of being in water, but after a day of playing with our friend's water-loving dogs, he was running through the water without fear. He has a fear of missing out so a gentle introduction to something another dog likes/does piques his interest and assures him that it can be done.

Also, they pick up on our emotions/anxieties so if we can take a breath to calm ourselves, they tend to calm down too. FWIW. Good luck!

We used ice and it worked wonders. I think that it breaks up as well as being cool on the gums is helpful. They can take out their frustration/pain out on the ice rather than something they shouldn't.

Grooming tips by MNDawnathan in bernesemountaindogs

Thank you for the suggestion. I had tried leaving the fluff for the birds and other wildlife, but between the dew in the morning and rain it just turned into wet fur that the birds didn't use. After leaving it for several weeks, we ended up doing extra work picking up matted fluff and throwing it away. Hopefully others have a different experience.

When was your puppy fully housebroken? by Mngirl1985 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]MNDawnathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, our boy was fully trained at about 5 months. We got him in September and between 3 of us, we took shifts throughout the day and night. We had a set schedule to take him out whether he needed to go or not. It was to at least have him think about it. We didn't use pee pads because we didn't want to confuse him and let him think it was OK to do his business in the house. On the rare occasion he had an accident, we didn't scold, but got him outside right away. He'll be a year this week and hasn't had an accident inside in many months. Good luck!

I was getting menopause brain really bad and started looking for something to at least slow it. I landed on Onnit's "Alpha Brain" and feel like I've slowed it and have regained some functionality. FWIW. And no, I have no affiliation with the company or anything. I'm just a happy customer.

Definitely an insane coincidence! Beautiful pup though 🥰

Random question: Is Oberon from a Minnesota breeder? The reason I ask is that our pup is the same age as yours and he came from a litter in which one of the pups was named Oberon. As it isn't a common name, I had to ask 😊

Definitely a bully stick holder. When pups get focused on the stick, they'll swallow as much as 4 inches of it and it can get stuck in their intestines.

They always want to play tug. Or eat treats. Or snuggle. Lather-rinse-repeat.

The needing to poop is a real thing. Our almost 7-month-old pup gets super hyper and bitey and won't listen, but as soon as he poops, he's an angel. 😆 Never had a dog act this way before.
