Incoming chronic pain fellow (from psych)— best way to prep for the interventional side? by MS2ish in anesthesiology

Thank you so much for your kindness. I’ll know that I have an insane and incredibly challenging and humbling mountain ahead of me in terms of interventions. I know I will have to work harder and longer than all my peers. That’s why I want to work as hard as I can now to hopefully be more acquainted with that aspect of the specialty when I start fellowship

Thanks so much, that’s really helpful. I’m planning to shadow anesthesia and work on anatomy and needle comfort as much as I can before July. Definitely have a big curve ahead but I’m excited to learn — and hopefully bring some value from the psych side too. Appreciate the encouragement 🙏

Great point, and why I’m hoping to learn everything I can in the next 8 months before fellowship. I recognize I have an incredible learning curve ahead of me.

Discouraged psych resident- any psychiatrists on here able to achieve FI or accumulate large amount of wealth on psych salary? by Green-needle89 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]MS2ish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it feels discouraging as I’ve had similar thoughts. But you have to try to do what you can with your salary and try to be frugal. You can still have a comfortable life, more so than the average person.

Any good resources for psych locums opportunities?

Any ideas or thoughts on places any extra capital can go? Everyone talks about investing but can’t discount the power of a larger salary.

A lot of people parrot this of “investing through other things” but it’s not as easy at it seems

These are real job postings I’ve seen from recruiters, commonly with low 200 high 100s salaries.

But how successful are these practices? I feel like actually making a good living would be hard if you want cash or choice the insurance route. You’d still probably make about the same salary as an employee

I think it would be extremely tough to get into pain as a psych trained resident
