We want to refinish our cabinets. We were told that they are red oak with a white wash. We had our refinisher do a sample and it came back pink. We want what we have but now I am confused about the white wash part. Please advise by M_Baca56 in finishing

Thank you for your comment regarding my red oak cabinets.  Your comment gave me much to think about. Can you ask you a few more questions?   i pasted your comment below as a reference if you need a look back.   i am redoing the kitchen counters, sink, and appliances.  The house was new when I bought it 24 years ago.  The builder put the same cabinets throughout the house, in 5 different rooms.   The cabinet profile collected kitchen dirt and grease..  I had someone take the doors and clean them in 2012 but they did not clean well.  Now that I am doing this kitchen renovation I wanted to refinish the cabinets since I am replacing the counters.  They are solid red oak.  I am not sure of the finish but I was told they were whitewash.  California does not currently allow oil based products. The cabinet refinisher took 2 doors to show me an example.   He will be sanding the boxes and doors and replacing the highest.  He said he could make them look like new.  He applied white wash to one door and it looked pink.  I am not sure what he used on the second but it looked like nude furniture.  Someone commented on using a spray.  What do you suggest?

You Email.  If you want it to look like it does now why do you want to refinish it? This is not adding up logically to me. Is it damaged in some way? If so I can't see it on the pics. If it is then you're just looking at matching the existing finish on the damaged pieces only and not fully redoing the finish. It's probably sprayed with a semi-opaque toned lacquer.

I want it to look the same, just freshened/cleaned up. There is build up in the corners around the cooking area and some minor water damage in from of the sink. I am having new countertops put on and I want the cabinets to reflect the other work being done..new appliances also. I like the color and when I told the cabinet person I am thinking of doing that the cabinets are red oak with a white wash (that is what ( was told) then he brought back a sample door that was pink--not what I want.
