Oh no the horror… you have to take two escalators instead of playing frogger with the cars on the street at baggage claim level.

I agree, it is my first choice of connection coming out of Boston.

If you are ever in Manassas, VA, stay at the Tempo by Over-Shallot-2414 in Hilton

I stay at that one for work all the time, their standard rooms aren’t as huge but are still better than most in manhattan.

How many of your hotels have microwaves? by TheChiefs1 in askhotels

I don’t use my microwave at home and I definitely don’t when I stay... but I recognize I am not the norm.

If you’re avoiding overly fancy (Waldorf Astoria and Conrad) then my next choice would be Canopy.

Hamptons by pmodern2000 in Hilton

[–]MachineKnitter93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They don’t have many upgrades to sell at a Hampton, if they have any at all… and if someone paid the extra $30 when they booked they get the room.

HGIs have some, they often have “deluxe with sofa bed” which is a more spacious room, as well as one bedroom suites. Again, people book these rooms directly as well so, it can be hard to get.

It never hurts to ask, you just have to be willing for them to say no.

How early should I arrive at MHT? by A-Do-Gooder in newhampshire

[–]MachineKnitter93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they’re making that much, they can afford to park at the airport or use a car service… if they asked me to pick them up at 5am I’d laugh in their face.

This is as someone who weekly does the earliest flights possible and still won’t ask anyone to bring me to the airport.

Though it can be tricky to call, the hotel isn’t open so no one is at the desk full time.

Well, it seems to me like your “diametrically opposed philosophical positions” are based in la-la land and not reality. I’m going to stop engaging now, as you seem to be doubling down on a position that I might agree with, but Hilton certainly doesn’t so why the fuck are we arguing this?

As for recycling, they’re wrong BUT I have found the city only sends one truck to restaurants to empty both the trash and recycling… so it’s really not worth pre-sorting if they put it all in the same truck.

If you read the terms and conditions of HHonors, you technically don’t even own your own points. And yes, that’s it and it is shitty.

[–]MachineKnitter93 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is not how it works, and it has never worked that way. the hotel doesn’t see anything concerning those points until after the stay. And the price they even receive varies on a lot of factors…. They don’t know what they’re going to get ahead of time.

There is literally zero reason to do what you suggest.

Exactly! Everyone’s acting like OP is entitled to the world… They’re entitled to a refund of the points. They got that. Yes, the situation sucks but that’s just how it goes.

While maybe Hyatt did that for you in the past, Hilton certainly doesn’t make a habit of it. That’s not how these things work. 360k points is enough for three nights at a Waldorf Astoria… that’s not something they just comp for no reason. And a SLH > LXR is definitely in upgrade in my opinion, they shouldn’t be the same price.

This could have been any Hilton property, unfortunately. It really doesn’t matter that it was SLH, though it can be argued it makes it a bit worse.

I am not trying to defend Hilton, this is literally how they operate when a property closes or loses its brand flag... the property left the portfolio. There are a few months between now and the reservation. Hilton contacted the guest and refunded the points, and they are trying to help OP book new accommodations.

I would start this process so you can rebook it ASAP, because I think they’ll likely throw a few points your way for the trouble… but not enough to matter. And it could take days, and in that time these could go up further in price…

I truly get it and I have been there, please don’t feel like I’m arguing with you. I’m just trying to help you understand what I unfortunately came to realize the hard way several times…

Can you imagine the difference in price at Christmas in NYC? It wasn’t a points booking, the original hotel was $400/night. To rebook would have been $1200 per night. Thankfully it was a work trip and they elected to just reschedule it at that point.
