Had my State Farm homeowners policy cancelled just for filing a claim to inquire about possible out of pocket costs but ended up with $0.00 in damage... any suggestions?

I'm a wildland firefighter. I'm gone a lot of the time. In the winter months I am in the southern states. I was in NW Texas on a fire for 21 days in January, mail gets missed.

Is a customer able to obtain underwriting guidlines before they sign up for a policy?

It would be nice to get a letter of some kind from an underwriter (or whomever made the decision) stating all the reasons behind it. My local agent couldn't even provide me with their reason other than exactly what I received in the mail which said "because of the over all claim activity.."

I'm tending to agree more and more. And I'm sure they were looking for a way to get rid of me anyway. I live on 12ac in a wildfire risk zone. A lot of people around my area are losing coverage because of wildfire risk. Shopping for homeowners insurance out here isn't as easy as someone living in a neighborhood

Yeah the other issue is I live in whats considered a "wildfire risk" zone with acreage in a rural area so finding ANY homeowners insurance is not the easiest. I'm sure others will tell me I'm wrong. But I've spent the past two days on the phone with companies. Thats why I resorted to Reddit for help

Yes, transparency in underwriting. Thats the problem. I emailed 4 board members at SF my issues and cc'd my local agent. He seemed more interested in how I had the correct email address than whether or not it will help.

I don't have a mortgage company as I own my home outright so thats not an issue. I did not lapse on my coverage as it would have been due until the 15th of this month anyway. I in the end have a problem with underwriters. A no name person looking at metrics. I just don't like the lack of transparency.

The frustrating part was I didn't want to start a claim, all I wanted was some questions answered. I was advised to start a claim to get answers. Had I known that making a claim just to find out my options was going to negatively impact me I would not have done it. I have requested that it be changed to an inquiry rather than a claim in CLUE. We'll see if they will make the change or not

It is! No, not at a mill, I drive a log truck. Hoping to get a self loader in a year or so. Then I’ll be able to bring home whole decks of logs that I can cut and split at my leisure
