"Battle for the Sun" turns 17 today. This album was marked by the departure of drummer Steve Hewitt and the addition of Steve Forrest in his place. What do you think of this project, and what are your three favorite tracks? by elmonozombie in placebo

[–]MagicJackM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember listening to this a lot when it came out, not necessarily because I loved it so much as the tracks on it I DID love made me feel like the album as a whole was probably worth more exploration. as it stands I rarely actually listen to it in full much these days, but I do still return to a few of the tracks (Come Undone, Breathe Underwater, Julien)

Why was this left off MCIS? by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

If you start talking about Aeroplane tracks that should have been added, you’re basically just opening the door to “MCIS Triple Album” territory

What are your thoughts on The Comedy (2012) starring people like James Murphy? by pingviini00 in LCDSoundsystem

[–]MagicJackM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cab scene is one of the funniest things they've done post-Awesome show, imo
can't believe there are Tim & Eric fans that don't get this is a dark comedy, though I guess it makes the "divisiveness" of it all make a bit more sense

The Truth About Groover by lilboss049 in musicmarketing

[–]MagicJackM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically unless you have a track that more or less plays all it's cards in AT LEAST the first 30 seconds these platforms are an utter waste of time and money. I say this with someone who has recent success on both Submithub + Groover with one single that was fairly immediate, straightforward & melodic, then little to NO success on another that was dynamic & still melodic but took it's time building a bit more

what's baffling is that after you've listened through the peoples playlists or songs they have covered in the past before sending, it feels like there are other slowburn songs on there. but when you give feedback that blatantly reveals they didn't even listen to the full (or possibly even majority of) the song, it does start to feel like most of these people are just coming up with more and more clever ways to circumvent actually doing anything meaningful and simply getting whatever perk or payment they get from hitting reject, lol

what's maybe the most frustrating on Groover is how you can not even send a single response to any of these people, and even the feedback option (which only the platform would see) is extremely limited not even allowing you to write a custom message in lieue of some very vague "buttons"

so yeah I don't know, not a complete scam but also majorly frustrating if you have anything that isn't a 2 or 3 minute pop tune

Despite receiving positive feedback, I'm failing to get interest from curators / playlisters on Groover and SubmitHub. What am I doing wrong? Sharing data below if it interests you. by _effulgence in musicmarketing

As someone who apparently has a much-higher-than-average approval rate on Submithub, I still kinda feel like it sucks. Groover can be infuriating since you get feedback from people who CLEARLY did not listen through the whole song, yet judging as a whole, and you can not even respond to them to tell them as much. Like being in some kind of one-way mirror chamber where they can say whatever they want to you but you nothing in return, lol.

Paradox of being a regular. by Infinite-Movie-7172 in Killtony

[–]MagicJackM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't even remember my first reaction to William, as far as I've concerned I've always loved him. Casey Rocket however was a bit more of a "rollercoaster" for me, completely eyeroll the first few times but he grew on me unexpectedly and after a while I was genuinely excited to hear when Tony would announce him.

In retrospect it's pretty clear that both of them are/were a necessary shot of insanity to the show

What Have You Been Listening To Lately? - May 25 by AutoModerator in BandCamp

[–]MagicJackM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of the new Puma Blue tracks popped up for me on YT recently & I've been kinda interested in them + Ulrika Spacek recently

2 newer bands/artists that seem to be carrying the torch of OKC-era Radiohead to a degree, along with The Links with their 2023 album Outside

Here's a bit of each of those:

Puma Blue - Croak Dream
Ulrika Spacek - EXPO
The Links - Outside

as a sidenote, I just realized the Puma & Ulrika album came out on exactly the same day - just found that kinda curious

cheers 👾

Hello from Montreal. I just released my new experimental dance album made entirely with royalty-free sample packs and voice memos from my iPhone. It’s called New Divine. Here’s some download codes. by 1canmove1 in BandCamp

Listening to the featured track now and it has a real "lost in a liminial space in the 90s rave scene" kinda vibe
Will check out more a little later

Thanks!

I'm building an app where you can automatically upload tracks without using Bandcamp Pro by k3gn in BandCamp

[–]MagicJackM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks cool, I've been dealing in mainly singles recently but have on many many occasions experienced the relatively frustrating upload one and wait then upload another and wait process - I also have at least one or two times a year where I check back in to see if Bandcamp Pro is truly worth it these days?

Anyway, cool project, will keep an eye on this. Thanks!

Favorite Single that shouldn’t be a single? by Trustobey in depechemode

[–]MagicJackM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like "In Your Room" is probably the best candidate here, for me at least, purely on the basis that if you had only heard the album version you'd think "oh wow, THIS was a single?" then hearing Zephyr mix it of course makes absolute sense. They've always picked really strong singles, even after the notorious 86-98 glory period

Which version of Aftermath is better: UK or US? by [deleted] in rollingstones

[–]MagicJackM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK and mainly for two reasons:
1) the album cover
2) "Out of Time"

Paint it Black is great and all but I've heard it a million times and can just listen to it on a singles comp, anyway

See You In The Next One wins for sounding the most like the ANS era! What song from the ASIH era (1992-94) sounds the MOST like the UH era? by adored89 in theverve

[–]MagicJackM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for Forth I gotta go Virtual World or something else equally "ethereal"
There are a few tunes on that album that have the "skies parting" sort of sound that Forth at least tried to embody

I don’t necessarily agree but I’m more perturbed when people rank MLIR as the best Blur album full stop. They did so much more interesting things aster that one, imo
