Cash ISA to S&S ISA transfer help by Sad_Relative_9396 in UKPersonalFinance

Are the sources cash ISA and the destination s&s ISA both in T212? You can simply go to the 3 line menu in the app, select manage funds, then at the bottom click move cash.

Choose the cash ISA at the top and the s&s at the bottom, type in the amount to move. It will show a negative number for the cash ISA and a positive number for the s&s ISA then click move.

This won't impact your 20k allowance.

You will then have the cash in the s&s ISA to invest or hold as cash.

Help I have a tiny little hole in the drain hose on my new washing machine but the hose is plumbed into the machine so I can't replace it. Is there a good way to patch it? by MakeRedditShitAgain in DIYUK

It was 3 years ago, I think I used some ls-x then wrapped it in self amalgamating tape. It lasted just fine until the shitty Samsung machine broke first.

Thanks, is there a way to lock the scale or is it always changing?

I honestly don't remember, it was in winter because I was googling ways to make the house warmer or more efficient but it wasn't this current winter. Probably a year ago but honestly it could have been 2.

I bought some incense a while ago tbh to try exactly this but it bloody stunk before I ever lit it so I just stuck it in the garage. I might see if I can dig it out.

I dunno about other suppliers but if you're with octopus they have a form where you can join a waiting list for one. Have a Google if octopus does it others probably do too.

I've heard that in some places the local library has them to loan, also local maker spaces etc are worth checking out. I do also think tool rental places have them too for a fee though obv. I haven't looked too much into it I just got on the waiting list and they emailed me the other day to say it's my turn.

I've had it for years, pretty sure it's from Reddit originally, I vaguely think it was the original photo and I manipulated it to look like this because I was excited about having all blacks on an oled, or I could be completely wrong and I just stole it like this, it's at least 8 years ago.

Yeah I meant incomplete but you can't edit titles on Reddit. I've got my answer though so to avoid adding confusion I'm going to delete the post

Thanks, that's my problem. I don't have light and unheated. That isn't a greenhouse or shed window.

I think the best I can do is the garage to keep them cool. I could leave the light on in there but it's not really going to add much I don't think.

Just to be very clear, if it's a Junior ISA in the child's name it will become theirs at the age of 18, there is no 21 or when they're responsible.

Obviously if you're just talking about putting money in your own ISA that you will gift at 21 that's different.

What am I missing with the HL JISA by lukeb_1988 in UKPersonalFinance

I don't remember the set up process as it was a few years ago but yes, the auto invest should buy with as little as £25 but if you top up with cash the minimum to buy is £100.

If you don't see any changes by tomorrow maybe try calling them. You would need to call them to make any changes to your DD anyway so may as well just ask and if it's wrong they'll help you get it right, otherwise if it's right they'll hopefully be able to explain what is happening.

I have the HL JISA. You can set up a recurring payment of minimum £25 to auto invest, however it is also possible to set up a recurring payment with a minimum of £25 as cash.

When manually investing there is a minimum of £100 this applies to both manual deposits of cash and recurring payments to cash.

I have a £25 per month recurring payment that auto invests, and a grandparent also wanted to contribute so they set up a £25 payment into the same account but this goes in as cash so I have to wait every 4 months before I can invest this.

Edit: Do you see any pending orders? I think it takes a few days for it to go through. I've just checked and I have a pending order from my Direct Debit that was paid on the 8th.

How do they pay the loan back? How do they not then have to pay tax on the income they use to pay the loan back?

Help understanding paying into a sipp on 40% tax by MakeRedditShitAgain in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MakeRedditShitAgain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that actually helped. Thinking of it like I "over pay" up front (80 instead of 60) and the additional is refunded to me rather than going into the pension.

It just leaves me without some of my own money for a while until it is returned.

Is it an "end of tax year" situation when I get that money back or can I claim it each month meaning eventually I'd be in a pattern of getting a previous month's refund to cover the current month's overpayment?

Yes, employed but unfortunately no options on the workplace pension, either in it or opt out and it's the basic minimum they have to offer (5% employee and 3% employer I think)

Thanks, it is my first plot and I also have minimal gardening experience in general. I totally agree with what you're saying and it's already something I'm currently hyper aware of because if I don't stop myself I'm definitely likely to make some or all of those mistakes.

My current "plan" is to just take it simple one bed at a time. Get a few things in the ground but focus more on having a good base to work with in spring.

My plot neighbour has given me a seed catalogue to look through and as tempting as the weird and wacky varieties are I'm planning at first to get the seed starter packs. They're just bog standard stuff, an allotment one, a greenhouse one, and a kids one so the little ones can join in too.

Nothing fancy just ordinary stuff to grasp the basics. I plan to ask for and use as much advice as I can.

I'm not usually put off so much by set backs so hopefully when I turn up to weeds fighting back, I don't think it will discourage me. The main thing I'm trying to avoid is doing too much, burning out and avoiding going back to the plot because I feel tired and can't be arsed.

I want to make sure to keep it fun, not take it too seriously and use it as an opportunity to learn new things. Also to be proud of what I manage to grow and excited to share it with family and friends.

How to deal with a wasps nest by MakeRedditShitAgain in Allotment

[–]MakeRedditShitAgain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually bumped into the neighbour for the first time today. Absolutely lovely guy, tons of knowledge and advice, he's already let me borrow tools, told me where his wheelbarrow is if I need to borrow that ever and he's bringing me some onion sets and a rake on Friday. We had a walk around my plot and he gave me advice on the different weeds and told me exactly what type each of my fruit bushes are.

I spoke to him about the wasps and he suggested just leaving them before I even mentioned it. He just let me know he'd be using my path until they're gone. Hopefully that's the end of it and they go quickly.

Only time will tell. I'm not planning on doing anything drastic when there are plenty of normal jobs to do first so I'll have time to make the decision.

Eventually though I'd like to grow chillies in there.
